Has anyone used the 64 bit ODBC with FACTS 7.7?
jeff-christie
Have a 7.7 customer who is using SQL server to access some FACTS tables. Apparently, this server is getting upgraded and they will be using 64 bit SQL server. Has anyone been faced with similar and used the 64 bit ODBC client/server? Will it work with the older version 8 providex and files? I'm guessing it might have to be purchased and installed separately, that's fine, just wondering if it will even work?
Thanks, Bob

I have FACTS 7.7.7 working with ODBC Version 5.20 (available on ftp.pvxplus.com)
We are using the 64 bit client with the matching server 5.20 version.
You will need to request the correct auth code for ODBC from INFOR.
If you are looking at the auth code sheet, and the PVX8.x ODBC key matches the PXPLUS ODBC key you have a version 4 key.

Marty, thanks for the reassurance! I went ahead and contacted PxPlus and they seemed to agree that it should work. I did get a separate version 5 server license and installed using a different port than the version 4 server still running and setup my 64bit data source. I tested via my 64 bit Excel 2013 and it found and showed the FACTS tables I selected just fine. The customer's IT guy tried with his SQL stuff but was getting some sort of error, I haven't followed up with him yet, but I'm thinking his problem isn't due to using the 64 bit ODBC version based on the input and success I've seen elsewhere with other 64 bit apps.

The issue that you are running into is related to Version 5.10, you need version 5.20 on the server and the client.

Also the license manager will get confused if running 4.21 and 5.10 on the same server. You can run 4.21 and 5.20 on the same server.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I just went to the download section on pvxplus.com and they only listed 5.1. I do see the 5.2 programs on the ftp site. I'll upgrade to those and have them try again. Thanks again.

Bob,
Just wondering if you were able to get ODBC working on a 64-bit server and 64-bit client with FACTS. I have a customer who is upgrading to FACTS 7.8 on a 64-bit Windows 2012 server, and wants to use Windows 64-bit client workstations. Infor's position is that they don't support 64-bit ODBC. However, you had previously indicated you tested via your 64-bit Excel and were successful. Just wondering if a.) you installed the 64-bit driver from pvxplus.com, and b.) did you have to install a different version of the ODBC file server (the FACTS 7.8 media contains version 5.2 32-bit).
Any insight you (or others) can provide is appreciated!

I have it working with 7.7.(7/8) and 7.8
The ODBC ver 5.20 is required if you also have the 4.21 running (5.10 will interfere with 4.21)
I have a client running the ODBC 5.20 server side, and both the 32 bit and 64 bit clients. (SQL required the 64 bit client driver, while some users still had 32 bit Office)

On a side note -
PXPLUS does not have a driver for SCO for ODBC 5.x and therefore you will NOT be able to read the VLR enabled files that are used in FACTS 7.8.

Brad, in my setup, I have both 4.21 and 5.2 running on the server side using different ports. Yes, in my testing with 64 bit Excel, I was able to see the FACTS files just fine. My customer who was testing with 64 bit SQL hasn't gotten back to me with a yes or no whether using the 5.2 version works. I sent him a reminder email yesterday to let me know and haven't heard back yet. I used the 5.2 version from the ftp site, I'm presuming that's the same as the FACTS 7.8 version? I guess one other question I had and Marty might of answered it, is going forward with using 5.2 as the server, you can use either the 32 bit or 64 bit client as needed to connect to the server and we'll be fine?

I have had a customer use both the 32 bit and 64 bit client for Ver ODBC 5.20.

Bob and Marty,
Thanks for the replies. I was able to install the PxPlus ODBC 5.2 server and both the 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC drivers and they worked at my customer. Part of the problem is other applications being used on the workstation (ex: 32 or 64 bit Office/Excel/Access) and the 3rd party applications FACTS is interfacing with (ex: UnForm Document Archiving, etc.). I ping'd Allen at SDSI yesterday to see what their plans were for the UnForm Image Manager software on 64-bit, and here's what he indicated:
"The image manager is a VB6 program, so yes in its current form will always be a 32-bit application. Our current plan is to eventually replace that program with a browser-based image manager, at which time odbc lookups would be performed by the server, either directly in pxplus or else via a support server which itself is slated for rewrite in .NET and which should support both 32 and 64 bit operation.
We don't have any timeframe yet in mind for when this effort would take place. I know that unform 9.0 will still have the VB6-based image manager, so there is no near term change coming."
Now, we can always install the 32-bit ODBC driver using the 'syswow64' ODBC administrator, so that shouldn't be an issue. Once again, thanks for the replies!
