Anyone have any setup tips for Maryland Tax WH?
No matter what marital status we choose on PR13, the withholding is always occurring at the Single rate.
Hi Vince! Can you provide some more setup information so I can find the correct resource to assist? E.g. is the resource brought in through Talent Management or directly adding into payroll?
Hello Vince - When you calculate a payment, are you getting an error/warning message in the BSI message viewer regarding filing status?
For Maryland, you are required to use the same filing status on your Maryland income tax return as used on your federal income tax return. You can review the Maryland website to determine correct filing status: https://www.marylandtaxes.gov/individual/income/filing/index.php
Keep in mind that filing status numbers on the Maryland website do not match up with what is within Infor, so you'll have to compare the descriptions rather than the numbers. For example, in Maryland, Head of Household is filing status=4 where in Infor, Head of Household is filing status=6.
Thanks, we had a ticket open with BSI. Part of our confusion stemmed from the MD online withholding calculator, which was returning different withholding amounts for single vs. family at lower incomes, when their own tables show that there isn't any. We later found their online net pay tool, which returned the results we expected based on manual calculations. We are least getting some provable results in Lawson now, even if the statuses to use are still in question.
Thanks for the heads up on the Fed/State coinciding, We thought that referred to statuses on their returns rather than the W4 vs. MW507. We cannot tell from the MW507, for instance, if election is Married or Head of Household or surviving spouse, all the same box. Are you saying if they select Head of Household on Federal W4, you assume that is what the MW507 should be entered as in Lawson? Does it actually matter if MD only has Single and Family tables?
I think some of our confusion stems from the fact that their website and online withholding calculator has 6 statuses, the form MW507 only has 3 choices (with really just 2 rates), and their online net pay tool, tax guide and tables have 2 statuses. Is confusing determining return and MW507 status.
Honestly, your best option may be to just contact the state directly as it seems they are providing conflicting information. From the link I provided in my last message under 'Determine your filing status' it states:
Generally, you are required to use the same filing status on your Maryland income tax return as used on your federal income tax return or the filing status that you would have used if required to file a federal income tax return.
This applies whether you are a resident COMAR 03.04.02.02 or nonresident COMAR 03.04.02.03 of the State of Maryland.
Maryland has six filing statuses based on the filing status used on your federal income tax return.
