Ideas on how to handle "Customer Specific Inventory" in M3

Good Afternoon Everyone!

We’ve got a quick question about "customer specific" inventory, and we’re wondering how others may be handling it in M3?

We have a couple customer contracts that call out that we need to maintain a certain inventory level specifically for them.

For example, Customer XYZ says that we always need to have quantity 10 of a particular Item in stock.

Questions:

1. How do we protect / reserve that quantity 10 away from the general population...and only allow that to go to Customer XYZ when they call to Order?

2. Do we designate a specific Lot of 10 for them?

3. Or is there a way to prevent the "general population" from driving the inventory level below 10, but Customer XYZ is allowed to do that?

4. Or anyone other way to approach this problem?

Can Safety Stock be Customer specific?

For example...

I have promised Customer XYZ that they will always have quantity 10.

And say I have quantity 20 on hand.

So if I set the Safety Stock at 10:

1. What prevents another Customer from coming in and buying all 20 (he should only be able to get 10)?

2. And what allows Customer XYZ to come in and get "their" 10 (as opposed to any other customer)?

Yes

The steps as follow

1- Go to CMS016

2- write CTS095

3- go to CMS017 generic object control table open

4- you will find some fields to build the logic in the control table with 10 sequences each sequence have 3 fields in the control table

You will find the customer

5- then after building the control table logic go to CTS095 to fill the data

You can also set up a separate consignment warehouse and link it to the customer in MMS005, then default the customer to that warehouse in CRS610. All stock will be separate from other customers, planning messages as well.

I agree with Adam,
this is the better way to do this to segregate out Demand / Availability by Customer.
Just set the MMS002 Items up as 'Distributed' from the Main Warehouse.

And this would still allow a Customer to purchase Items from the "general" warehouse AND "pull" from their Warehouse for the contracted Items?

The question is do you want to separate the stock for the customer physically

Or you want to consider the item in one pool for this customer and other customers ?

this is interessting but quite hard to follow. , is there any kind of documentation for this function since the form help returns nothing. I would, for example, not know where to link the specific customer or how to set up the item. and how would i deal with more than 10 items? i think the option to have a virtual warehouse just for that customer with safety stocks and distributed fro the main warehouse would do the trick but i am still curious about that safety stock protection function.
