I am interested in how others manage special characters that can be entered into the Landmark or S3 environment relative to interface files. Commas cause havoc in CSV files. They can be contained in "" but then you open yourself up to extra quotation marks if they appear in the data. Other special characters like the ampersand can cause troubles in XML files.
It appears that this can't be managed at the Business Class level rather it has to be done any place a modification to the field can be done. Often times they get into the data via ISD.
Instructions to the end-users in our HR organization to not use special characters is problematic. If there were just a couple of people entering data it would be more manageable but we have a sizeable population managing the data with turnover and well it just continues to happen.
