API Flow with XML as Response

HI Team,

I have requirement to expose an endpoint from WMS to customer's Carrier system. For which I have created API Flow to serve the request.

But the challenge, I am facing is O/P from API Flow is Json, but the carrier system needs the response in XML format as they are not willing to write any transformation at their end.

Can someone please advise how to achieve or a better way to address this requirement?

Hi Abhi,

Since you mentioned you have the API Flow, this can only take request as JSON and can gave only json response. But the requirement is that when 3rd party calls this API flow they need to have XML response.

The only solution for this is to write a Wrapper API on top of your API Flow endpoint and have a transformation policy.

1. Create an authorized app - Backend service

2. Have the endpoint for API flow ready

3. Create a Non infor API suite and provide the above API Flow endpoint as your target URL making sure the authentication is OAuth 2.0 and the Target endpoint security also OAuth 2.0.

4. Save this Non Infor API Suite and prepare the swagger documentation as needed.

5. Finally implement the Endpoint policies for response and select transformation. Here you have to write the code for conversion of JSON to XML.

I would suggest you try a document flow with an API connection point and a Script step to convert JSON to XML.
I am attaching the script example.

Here the use case is, customer expecting an endpoint to be invoked for retrieving the required information from WMS.

I believe the document flow can't be exposed as endpoint to the customer. Please correct me if I am wrong with my assumption.

Sorry, I missed it in your first message.
Yes, a document flow can't be exposed as an endpoint.

But there is a possibility to start a document flow using "IMS via ION API" connection point.

And from the WMS side, how this API will be exposed? Manually?

Danil is correct - if you can handle asynchronous responses and if you can create an endpoint listener for ION data flow to call with teh XML response (like an IMS endpoint).

Two other possible options: API Flow is designed to be REST/JSON, but you can potentially add a script api as the last step to transform from JSON to XML. Your response will then include the XML needed as an output value of the script API JSON response.

Another option might be to create a "wrapper" API suite that calls the API Flow and then write a response transformation policy for your wrapper endpoint. (I haven't done that one but i think it should be possible)
