Greets, community!
As part of our recent upgrade from V10 to FSM, we started to use handhelds for picking through MSCM. Despite our staff always refreshing the screen before choosing a shipment to download, it is inevitable that two people will at times select the same non-assigned shipment to download and begin picking the same order. Only one person can actually submit it to print the delivery ticket -- sometimes we catch the error before this point and sometimes not -- but this obviously creates rework for the staff with someone going back to restock all the products that were just "double picked."
When I inquired with Infor I was told there is no inherit solution to this and that it comes down to timing. We understand that if someone has a shipment downloaded and a user refreshes the screen that we can see the person icon next to the shipment, as well as the warning that occurs if someone were to then attempt to download that assigned shipment. The problem lies in the timing of manual refreshes and thus viewing static data.
We have brainstormed various ideas to help alleviate this such as tracking shipment numbers on a pad of paper when downloading, or users "checking in" at a designated spot before downloading a shipment; however, this just seems to take away from efficiencies that one would expect to gain from utilizing the handheld. (Previously, we physically printed our pick tickets and thus only one employee would ever have the hardcopy -- not to say there were no other issues that we faced with this method, which is why we were excited to be picking with handhelds.)
If you have experienced this problem, have you any creative solutions?
