Limitations of Office 2021

Hi,

I have a customer who doesn't want to use Office 365, due to whatever reasons. This was by now a show stopper to migrate from his old V11 to V12.

Now I've seen in the documentation that Office 2021 is supported as well.

However, I wonder about the comment: "Office 2021 with the perpetual license does not come with the latest feature updates. See the "Limitations and Restrictions" topics under Related topics."

When looking into the limitations there is no special reference of Office 2021 but all limititations seem to be general for all Office versions, right?

Are there any special restrictions when using Office 2021 with perpetual license rather those described in the above mentioned topic?

Hello Ralf,

what we support is closely related to the Office.js API releases. The statement in the documentation means that whatever features/office.js APIs are coming after 2021 release and are going to be used while we introduce new features depending on them - those won't be most probably available for 2021 version (or will be limited).

For instance, we are going to introduce data types support at some point and that feature is not available for Office 2021.

thanks for the explanation, although I must admit, that I cannot forsee the consequences/limitations between Office 365 and Office 2021 in detail.

Right now, the customer is using Office Plus in V11 and most of the reports are based on DBGET, DBSET, so should be converted to INFOR.READ/WRITE.VALUE.

Can you confirm, that these formulas or let's say the basic features to retrieve and write values from/into the cubes will work in Office 2021?

Hello Ralf,

well, one example can be Ad-hoc report, it will work with e.g. Office 2019 but due to missing Office.js API it is not possible to use expand/collapse functionality there.

So very similarly when we will need some new Office.js API function for certain feature... we will introduce it but that feature will not work with old Office clients (or will be very limited) as an example I can give you number formatting.

So in short - yes, whatever is working NOW will work even in the future, that's how we build the solution. But e.g. once we improve INFOR.READ.VALUE to support dynamic number formatting (FORMAT_STRING)... it won't be supported with Office 2021 (but the function itself will of course work the same as it is now) because Office 2021 does not support the new API functions we need for that.

Does it make sense?

Hi Vit,

this is good news that whatever is now working will continue to work in coming versions.

Just a last quick thing: You mention "will work e.g. withOffice 2019" but in the documentation this version is marked as "Not supported"?

Does Office 2019 work as well with Excel integration or is Office 2021 the first non-365-version that is supported?
