PR297 Box 13 any ability to override the flag

We have employees who have a history of retirement deductions. As part of a year end process, if the employee does not meet the requirements, those deduction amounts are reversed, leaving the YTD $0. Standard PR297 processing will mark box 13 with an X because of the history on the retirement deduction. Since the YTD amount is $0 we need to override the PR297 so box 13 is blank. We have tried updating the HR11, Year-end tab Retirement Plan field to both blank and No but that is not working. Does anyone else have this issue and have a way to override PR297?

Appendix A of the PR Year-end User Guide is a great resource to determine 'how' data is populated on the W-2.

For Box 13, the criteria is: An X prints in Box 13—Retirement Plan if the Retirement Plan field on Employee Year-End Parameters (PR11.1) equals Yes or Box 12 contains an amount preceded by the code D, E, F, S, AA or BB.

If any of those conditions are met, then the 'X' will show. Outside of not meeting the above criteria, a customized code change would be needed to override populating the 'X'.

I am looking at the Payroll and Benefits year end guide and it does not allow us to search for specific items, is there a different version that allow us to find a specific word. thanks

I would recommend selecting the PDF version, it's much easier to use. You can save it to your computer as well and use the PDF search function.
