Add empty space into a report with a hyperblock

Hello Everyone,

I would like to reduce the complexity of some reports by just using 1 hyperblock to define the row structure. However, I would also like to have some empty rows between certain blocks of the report, to make it more readable and not so crowded. For example have some space after revenues, then after expenses before it comes to profit. Anyone has a best practice how to include these empty spaces without having to deal with multiple hyperblocks?

Another interesting question.

I think that a way to do this is to create a space 1-n elements, with a " " (Space) in the name. You would then build a reporting structure including the Spaces and use the attribute as the first column.

My first question is have you tried using Slices? That will allow you to define multiple row sets in one single hyperblock much more cleanly than using just a hyperblock.

As to the original question, I create spacing using the Row properties and embedding logic in visibility Formula:

Depending on your business needs it can be as simple as

=If(A1 = "[My Element], "true","false")

Or if you have particularly complex requirements you can build an array that holds all elements that need a space before or after and search the array to determine whether to show the spacing row or not. Even better if spacing is dependent on a certain attribute of your dimension, then no logic is required other than the value of the attribute.

To keep things simple, I suggest you do use multiple hyperblocks. Also you can easily make totals bold and with different borders. I would say this is best practice.

Thanks a lot! Finally I solved the empty rows in the report by adding a calculation into the list structure of the hyperblock, and set the conditional formatting to white at every occurence of the calculation element.
