Activity online content files

Hi everyone, I see that I can't preview or download online content files unless they are SCORM. Most of our content is PDF or .doc because not everyone has access to course publishers. We need to be able to produce these for audits by our accrediting body and sometimes for subpoenas. How do you manage your catalog files with this in mind? I don't see a way to assign previous online content versions to myself for download. That isn't ideal anyways.

Hi Heather,

Good question. What I've seen people do for these types of documents is use the "Attachments" tab on the activity. You can use this tab to attach multiple documents to an activity - Word docs, PDFs, Excel, images, PowerPoints, etc.

If documents are added to the "Attachments" tab on the activity, both administrators and any employees who were assigned the activity will be able to view/download the documents.

However - this is a way to distribute static documents for download/review. Think of it as a way to attach additional materials to a course. The completion of the activity, and any information you want to get back from the documents attached here, will need to be handled elsewhere. This really just serves as a way to attach something like a word doc or PDF in a way that the employee can download it (as opposed to viewing it in the web/as a course).

Thanks so much Will! The challenge with the attachment option is that changes cascade out everywhere, including completions, so it looks like material was assigned to someone who did not in fact receive it. In other words, attachment changes don't version. It's all or none.
