Lawson Accelerator tool for LAUA to Lawson Security
unknown
Hello ...Has anyone used the Lawson Security Accelerator to migrate from LAUA to Lawson Security? We are considering using that tool to give us a jump start on Lawson Security. Any comments positive or negative would be appreciated.
thanks!

We used what was then called FastPath in 2010. It was money very well spent and I would highly recommend it. We could not have defined all the roles and security classes in the time available with the resources available without it.

Obviously this depends whether you want to change your Security philosophy in any way.
LAUA tends to be very high level in the past, however LS9 enables the Users to be defined in a more granular way.
FastTrack/FastPath gives you the bear minimum across the Applications. In my experience a review of the Security is called for - by Data Owner, rather than just transcribing the current situation.

I've used it before and it really helps out. You could create all the roles and security classes yourself (with time) but where it really shines is giving you a starting point to work with your business owners rather than just starting from scratch. Start with the spreadsheets and if your business owners want to deviate from the delivered setup they can, but they need to document why the decision was made.
If we had started from scratch it would have taken two years of meetings just to define what we wanted, much less implementing it.

I can't speak to switching from LAUA but we recently purchased it. It's essentially a set of pre-made/templated security roles that you'd go through and tweak for your purposes in order to quickly setup the basic framework. We haven't run into any gotchas yet.
The consultant we received from Infor to help us apply it was actually the person within the company that developed it, so we possibly received a more even experience than we would have otherwise. But I think even without her assistance, someone suffiently trained on Lawson Security would be able to utilize it to great benefit.

Couple of points here -
The Security Accelerator tool is a saleable product and contains a set of 600+ templates (I believe) that have been assembled based on the last 8 years of experience that ICS has had with customers. Its a huge head start as some have noted here. To Peter's point, they are templates and a review by the business owners is still best practice. But they are far more than bare minimum deliverables in my opinion. They were all built using the new tool's methodology and using best practices combined with lots of real world examples from actual client implementations. They don't convert anything from the old LAUA world, nor rely on old technology.
Not to be confused with the free LAUA to LS tool that came out about a year ago, which simply takes old LAUA security classes, dumps them out, massages them, and then loads them to LS. This is far more quick, but far more problematic (GIGO). And it doesn't take advantage of any of the new tool's methodology or best practices.

I appreciate all of your comments and views on this topic. It is valuable to hear from people who have experience with the product. Looks like a very positive review, which is happy news for me!

We didn't migrate from LAUA. We started in 2011, with LS. Like Samuel, we had the same consultant from Infor (the person that develped it). The process she used to help us design the roles and add the security classes to the roles, was well-thought out. The business owners were part of the process. I don't think I could have done the security build without the accelerator.

We utilized the tool several years ago to move to LS security. We felt we got 80% of the security classes, roles, etc from the tool. We could then focus our time and time with our consultant to build rules that differentiate us from other organizations. In the end there are certain functions that will be the same everywhere like entering a journal entry or keying an AP invoice. That level of security access was generated from the tool. Now we could spend our time building rules around HR reps not being able to see employees in their department or company specific access to HR, PO, or AP.
We felt it would have taken an analyst 6 months to build, test, and make ready to roll out the standard security or buy this tool and have them pre-delivered. It was a great investment from our organizations perspective.

As part of our SOX/SOD role and rules we defined specific functionality on what a user could /couldn't perform. We also developed a custom application with our roles / rules defined that interfaces into GEN and audits against the rules.
Of the people that migrated from LAUA to LSF9 and used the accelerator was your LAUA security developed with Role based security in mind? Also, how complex would you say your LAUA and new LSF9 security is? How are you approaching the auditing to your rules of SOX/SOD compliance?

While this post started with a question about the Lawson accelerator tool, I would like to suggest that folks looking for assistance with migrating to LS9 also consider Avaap. Avaap offers a suite of tools in addition to a starter set of rolses including LBI integrated security reports, customer-defined Segregation of Duties definitions, and very high quality consultation.
