Any suggestions on how to alleviate an issue we are having with multiple managers being assigned to a resource without creating additional positions?
We have many positions that are oversee direct reports which contain multiple resources. Each resource may be assigned to their own direct report group. When there are multiple resources in a manager position, they share the same manager number and the resource then sees either "multiple managers" or sees only the manager with the lowest employee ID as their manager.
I found documentation explaining how to set up a manager structure separate than the organization structure. However, I am finding that even when using this separate structure, a manager is linked by position and not individually. I am looking to create individual manager numbers, regardless of position, in order to assign individual managers to resources.
This issue is causing us to have to create many new positions just to split resources out by team under their correct manager.
Example: We have a large custodial staff that services multiple locations. Over this large group of custodians, there are a handful of Custodial Supervisors. Each supervisor has team. The Custodial Supervisor position for each team is the same description, pay grade etc. Due to sheer numbers, but also to avoid nepotism, we need to split custodians up strategically amongst the Custodial Supervisors. There is no other reason for us to create addition positions other than to differentiate teams and direct report clarity and for this reason we with to avoid creating and managing multiple new positions.
