ION max message size

Hi 

What is the ideal way to process messages in ION where the size is more than 5 MB?

I have some instances where the incoming file size is more than 20MB. I don t have any control over the generation of the file 
I can write an intermediate module to split the file before it reaches the ION. however is there any better way to do this?
