Emergency Contact Relationship consistency

Hello,

Does anyone have any suggestions on an edit to force consistency in the Relationship field for Emergency Contacts in GHR?

Currently the field is free text size 30.

We are hoping for a drop down select menu. Something that includes "other". Maybe even something that already exists in GHR?

If you want to have a state list, you could create a configured transient field that has the values you want. Example:

RelationToEmployeeState is Alpha size 30

default label is untranslatable:"RelationToEmployee"

States

Son value is "Son"

Daughter value is "Daughter"

Spouse value is "Spouse"

Then you add that field on the UI with a 'when value changed' rule to update RelationshipToEmployee with the value selected when it changes. Example:

RelationToEmployeeState

when value changed

RelationshipToEmployee = RelationshipToEmployeeState

I believe you will need the RelationshipToEmployee field on the UI still for this to work, but you can just visible when (false) that field so it doesn't appear.

Thank you. I created a field with my state values and tested it out by replacing the existing field with my new field on two forms. (I had to make it a persistent field in order to hold the value for when I came back for another update.)

Can you please clarify how/where to do the second step of adding it to the UI with the "when value changed" (instead of replacing it on a bunch of forms and lists?) I don't believe I've done anything like that yet and couldn't figure out where to begin with the change.

Any place you put the new transient field on a form UI you would want the 'when value changed' logic. That logic is what identified that something was entered in your new transient field and tells the system to populate it into the actual persistent field (RelationshipToEmployee)

You actually can keep the field as transient...I just forgot one piece of code for your transient field. Under your default label, you want to put:

derive value from RelationshipToEmployee

This will cause the UI to pull the value from the persisted field into your transient field when the form comes up.

So like this:

RelationToEmployeeState is Alpha size 30

default label is untranslatable:"RelationToEmployee"

derive value from RelationshipToEmployee

States

Son value is "Son"

Daughter value is "Daughter"

Spouse value is "Spouse"

So, just need to clarify..... I do have to change every single form and list, or can I enter something one time that says that where ever RelationToEmployee is used, then the select is from the states of RelationToEmployeeStates . My default is to search for a way to make as few configuration changes as possible.
