Hello.

1) Can an framework/application event actually generate a message on the screen? If so, what event action would I use?

2) Can an event handler in a form script generate an email to a user? If so, what code is required?

3) Can a event handler in a form script fire an application framework/event? If so, how is that done?

To generate a message on the screen from a form script: see below. There are few variation of the optional parameters.

Application.showmessage("Your Message")

Application.ShowMessage(AnyStringVariable, MsgBoxStyle.Critical)

Application.ShowMessage(AnyStringVariable, MsgBoxStyle.OkCancel)

To call an event from a form script, you just have to add the following:

ThisForm.GenerateEvent("NameofTheEvent")

Hi Louise,

Let me rephrase the question with the following helpdesk request:

If Customer Service is entering a Customer Order line for a Customer Order which has an end user type of RSP, they want a warning to come up on the screen saying " part x needs to go internal...." and they also want an email sent to other users.

If only an email was required, I would use a Framework event using Event IdoOnInsert.

If only a message on the screen was required, I would use a form script.

Now I need an email and an Application Message.

Which one do I use?

To maintain simplicity in the code and process, I would employ the method outlined below:

1. Utilize email as a means of communication by implementing an event handler.

2. Incorporate a form script to display warning messages.

If you have any specific use case why you want to be combined, please let me know.

Q1. The only time I've seen an on-screen message from an Application Event Handler is when it fails to Update or Insert (usually a trigger intervention). If you want an on-screen message in conjunction with an Application Event you can use Application.ShowMessage as suggested by Louise - probably a Formscript method triggered by StdFormSaveCompleted (or similar).

Q2. Probably but I can't point you at an example. I would usually go with Q3.

Q3. Yes but I would usually use a combination of Formscript and Form Event Handlers to trigger an email through AES (for no better reason than that's how Infor usually do it). Take a look at the Disposition Receiving form and formscript Function PostDispositionGeneral() which triggers the FORM event SendEmail. That event handler passes parameters to APPLICATION Event RSQCSendMRREmail.
