Refresh a derived property after a change on a new record

Example:  Customer Document Profile form

On a new record, when the Ship To number is added, I want a derived property on the form to show the customer address name.  

There are thousands of existing records, so using validation won't work to show the name for previous records.  Is there a way to just have the derived property refresh when the ship to number is added but nothing else?

The only way to refresh a derived property is to refresh the associated record. You can do this by refreshing just the current record after saving the shipto change.

If there is some issue with refreshing the current record in the grid you have in the form, you could setup a secondary collection to the same IDO with just the derived property and key properties required and refresh that collection when needed.
