No Charge Item Discussion
Stace Webley
I'd like to have a discussion about no charge items. On IC12.1 there is a flag labeled No Charge. The help text says, "This field indicates that an item will be on purchase orders as a free (no charge) item. This is a default for the purchase order, but the item can still be purchased at a cost, if need be."
In IC81.2 there is another No Charge flag and the help text says, "If you select Yes in this field, the item's cost is zero."
I'm wondering how org's are using these flags together or separately for items that are reusable. If you have something that is used and then processed for re-use (instruments) then are you using these flags? If not, when do you use these flags? Which type of items?
Also, lets say you have items you don't charge departments for which means you flip the flag to No Charge, but you need to have a cost for the items on a PO...then what do you do? We have questions because we have inventory items that fall into this area. Thank you!

We are using those flags. First of all, they must be used together. If you change the IC12 flag but do not change the IC81.2 flag, you will get an error message. We use these flags with baby formula which we get from the vendor at no cost and issue to our departments at no cost. Before these flags existed, we were unable to do any type of inventory adjustment that incremented our onhands for no cost items. The only way to increment onhands for these items was with a receipt or a cycle count. After these flags are set to Y, you can do IC24 and IC21 transactions for no cost items - YAY!

Stace, It looks like you never got an answer concerning inventory items that you don't charge departments for, but you have a cost on the PO. I'm curious how you or others handle this. Thanks.

We do not use them for reusables - we use them like Tracy Jones' organization - for actual no charge items. (Prior to the flags, we set the cost as .00001 to get around it)
For reusables, there is a cost and that is loaded in PO25.6.
