receiving error when accessing Lawson Security Admin an/or Portal
s-fonley
Hi All - I'm hoping someone can provide some insight and a solution to an intermittant problem we have been experiencing.
we are Windows 2008 R2 - our environment is LSF9.0.1.10 - WAS 7.0
Some mornings when the users log into the Security Admin Tool - they receive a message - Lawson SSO Server Failure....
before the backups run at night, we stop WAS(App, Node, Manager) and the Lawson environment -
then when the backups are completed, we start the Lawson environment and WAS( Manager, Node, App) - we have a 30 second delay between starting the environment and WAS.....
I have checked every log(system logs - ladb, lajs, latm, ios, lase, WAS logs etc) I can think of but I'm not finding anything useful that could pinpoint this issue....
we have checked the Event Viewer on the server...the DBA's said they don't see any errors in their logs...
I'm not sure what other logging I can enable to possibly capture an error.
I opened a case with Lawson and was told there is a disconnect between the Windows services for WAS and WAS itself....I was told to recreate the Windows services for WAS - which has been done several times...this has not corrected the problem...
I've tried to pinpoint a particular time of the month, particular days etc...
the weird thing is it occus for a few days in a week then we don't see it for a while - then it is back again....
our solution is to stop the WAS app server (within the WAS console) and then start the services using the Windows WAS app service...
this does fix the problem but we are trying to find what is causing this problem and hopefully permanently correct it.....
has anyone else encountered this problem? if so, how was it resolved?
thanks for any input privded!

You may need to give your WAS services and your lsf environment more time to start and stop. Try to stop and start manually and see how long they actually take to start and stop and adjust your timing accordingly.

I have found on my system that when I stop the services, it doesn't always kill all of the java processes in Windows. When I have restarted the services sometimes I get some errors and things don't work correctly.
So when I need to stop the services for any reason, I always just add a line in my script to reboot the application server at the end so it comes up cleanly.

Sandy and Rod - thanks so much for responding and for your suggestions - they are both good ideas!
Rod - you mentioned you get errors - can you tell me what are the errors and where you are finding them?
I don't know if they will allow a reboot every night - we stop and start services before and after the backups....but I'll mention it.
thanks again!

Hi Colleen,
Sorry it has been a couple years since I would only restart the services on a regular basis and I don't remember any specific errors. I just remember that it was never consistent and I couldn't rely on everything working correctly if I just restarted the services. After restarting the server, I have not had a problem with something not working correctly, although nothing is 100% perfect.
I'm not sure why you would need to stop the services in order to backup the server. We always have our services running while the backups are taking place and we have not had an issue. Restores have always worked 100%.
It may depend on the backup software you are running, but ours works fine while all services are running.
Hope this helps.

Hi Colleen, the error is related to APPS in WAS noy synching with the LDAP/Lawson environment. It could be that stop/start did not clear all java process. for example, when you stop environment did you check if all java process is cleared before starting the environment? Are you stopping the web server as well? what fix pack are you running in WAS? thanks

Hi - thanks so much for your response...
To my knowledge, we are not checking java processes - before starting the environment...any particular java processes we should look for or is it java, in general?
could that be why it is an intermittent problem - sometime java clears and sometimes not?
we are not stopping the web server....
we are on WAS 7.0 - fixpack 29...

Rod -
I may ask about turning off the start / stop services...
I believe we are doing it so noone is in the system when the backups are being done...
they are backed up using SQL Server
thanks!

Hi, Look at the java process located in your %WAS_HOME% or anything under your environment folder %gendir%,%lawdir%... sometime if is best to increase the timeout session as well. There are some instances that if you look at the services manager the service is started but technically it is still trying to start. Hope this helps. thanks
