Disable/Enable Buttons in Application Studio

Hi,

is there a way to disable/enable a button in a report, e.g. based on a variable or cell reference?

I'm not speaking of hiding/showing a button but of this property here:

If I change the property to disabled in design mode, it is always disabled.

What I want to achieve is, that the button is disabled (greyed out) as long as certain conditions (like values in other cells) are false.

As a workaround we are hiding/showing the button using the visibility on the availability-tab, but it would be better for the user, to see, that there is a button, but it is disabled due to certain conditions.

In V11 I would have used a report script to change the property of the button... does anybody know, if there is a way to change the button property at runtime in V12?

We are running on the latest version 2024-07.

Hi Ralf, I don't have a niche solution but I did this by adding 2 buttons, 1 was disabled and 1 was enabled and I changed the visible property using the variable. Thanks Vikas

Please try this.I think it might work.
Create two buttons - one with the Enabled Property set to true and one false.
Control the visibility of both with separate variables

Place the tow buttons on top of each other.

Make on visible and the other visible or vice versa using your variables.

Make a note in the comments section of your reports as to the fact that you have two buttons on top of each other as one will be hard to spot.

Not elegant so I would suggest an ER to set the Enabled property by variable.

Hi Ralph,

I tend to use a simplified approach, I format the cell below the button so it looks like a disabled button. Then I set the button to "invisible" using a variable. When the button is invisible, the cell appears that looks like a disabled button.

Hi Vik and John,

thank you for your help.

We discussed the solution with two overlaying buttons a few minutes ago and yes, from the user perspective this would achieve the expected behavior, and I think we will do it this way.

But from a development perspective it still remains a workaround for a missing feature in Application Studio.

Maybe once in a coming version the button properties can be managed using variables.

By the way, same issue for properties of charts which has been discussed in other threads if I remember correctly...
