MTD - Exception escaped during command execution

We have had a couple of customers unable to log into log into MTD - getting the error 'Exception escaped during command execution'. I believe this is the same error that came up when there was the issue with HMRC bringing in some new security rules that affected earlier versions of windows. This was subsequently retracted I believe but perhaps it has been reinstated? Has anyone else experienced this in the last couple of days?

I'm am literally just on with a customer and they are getting the same. Their PC is Windows 10 Pro so not sure what is going on?

Hi Tony, would you let us know the outcome of that. My customer's server is 2012 but the PC accessing MTD from is Windows 10 so may have to do the same but don't want to go down that route just yet!

Definitely works - we did it on a few last month or whenever it reared its head... just when you install it locally, you have to amend the Scheduler Client path in Registry as it is the Opera client install that lays that down... need it to point to local machine.

So process is:

1. Install SQL with relevant permisison

2.Uninstall Scheduler Client if it is already installed

3. Install Scheduler Server and Client locally

4. Amend registry as mentioned

Obviously, need to ensure PC/Laptop is Win10 or 11

The process is that the MTD VAT Centre via scheduler contacts HMRC and retrieves VAT obligations from the HMRC API. In doing so it will conduct some fraud header checks etc.

The trigger for this message, is infrastructure that is out of date "Exception escaped during Command execution. An error occurred while sending the request." Scheduler is falling over at the first huddle, hence this error message..

Looking at this article KB3515984 RTI and MTD submissions are no longer accepted by HMRC if using old operating systems. Customers should not expect a stay of execution from HMRC, take action ASAP. The NSCS also advise UK customers to be up to date in terms of security and infrastructure.

I have a different scenario where the client is using server 2022 and win 10/11 and latest scheduler however his opera is 2.91 is opera the cause of the error not being 2.94

Not sure how much this helps, but we moved a site from SBS2011 to
2022 Datacentre /Win 10 Pro/Opera 3 - 2.97.04/Scheduler 2.21.10

And it is working

I also did some early tests by mangling the Task Scheduler registry entries on one of the clients.

Opera 2.96.00 on client and old server/Scheduler pointing to new server

This got as far as asking for a new auth, so I took it as working.

If you have already done so, I would double check the registry on the client PC to see which server it is pointing at and check the setting in Task Scheduler

I may be wrong but as long as Opera3 version is 2.90+ then it should have the latest fraud headers.... Is it a big job to upgrade them as 2.91 is quite a bit behind now?

Hi Claire it is a small site with 3 users so shouldn't take long usually the error is because users have oldish hardware which is not the case in this scenario so is slightly confusing
