Payroll Interface

Hi All - Is anyone interfacing payroll journal entries into FSM from another system? If so, are you using Clinical Bridge? What payroll system are you interfacing from and what interface application are you using? Our organization would like to create an interface as opposed to doing the journals with an ISD which is what we've been doing. Thank you!

We were a split environment for a while where we had Lawson for HR/BN/PR/LP after we moved to FSM for financials and supply chain. We used the Infor Global Financial Controller to do this integration. It worked pretty well and was mostly out of the box, just a few tweaks to make it for our organization.

We built a payroll GL interface from UltiPro to FSM using the ION-API Gateway.

@mock , was using the ION_API Gateway the recommended approach from Infor? Would you say this method has worked well for you?

We have been Lawson customers for a little over 25 years. We currently do business in seven countries worldwide and use a variety of Infor products (GHR, FSM, LN, M3, IDM, LSP, ION, XM, etc.).

We went live on FSM MT over an ~18 month period in a phased approach beginning in the fall of 2021 with a single US-based business unit and concluding in the spring of 2023 with Brazil.

We're still using v10 payroll for the US & Canada today. (We've been hearing that GHR Payroll for Canada would be available "probably in the next 12-18 months" since at least 2019; had it ever come to fruition we'd probably be on GHR Payroll long ago. Recently we've begun evaluating other payroll replacement options alongside GHR payroll, but that's another story.)

We leveraged our existing on-prem Landmark server to create an IPA process flow to watch for various Lawson v10 Payroll jobs to run (PR195, LP198, PR198). We changed a configuration setting that caused these jobs to write their data to a series of GMPR files (in batches of 200 or 500 lines depending on the job) rather than having the PR subsystem post directly to our v10 GL.

Here's a picture of the steps the flow takes that should be fairly self explanatory:

Since our last Canadian business unit went live on FSM steps 5 & 6 are effectively "no ops" that never have anything to do. Step 7 & 8 each make a single web service call to Landmark via the IONAPI gateway. In a nostalgic nod to MS-DOS, we implemented "Abort, Retry, or Fail" logic in response to any unexpected behavior or errors. We've rarely had problems, but occasionally HR has made a mistake in employee setup or there's been intermittent network connectivity issues, so being able to intervene and then continue without having to back everything out and start over has been very helpful. Overall the process has worked very smoothly.

We looked at Infor GFC but ultimately didn't use it for two main reasons: 1) we had changed our accounting model rather drastically and had already developed tooling to crosswalk from our old model (5-dimensions) to our new model (11-dimensions) that would have been tedious to replicate in GFC; and 2) while we were still split between v10 and FSM for various business unit's GLs we didn't want to have to interface data up to the cloud only to then have GFC have to route it back down to on prem.

We have been on FSM for almost 4 years and have built a number of bi-directional interfaces between FSM and other systems using ION-API Gateway. In my experience, ION-API Gateway has been a very dependable and powerful technology. I am not sure if Infor recommends one technology over another. It's just another option in the toolbox. Which solution you choose will probably be determined by your access to development talent, either internal or external.
