CONTROLLING CREDIT LIMITS FOR DEBTORS IN VISUAL
Legacy Contributor
We are struggling to keep debtors within their credit limits. We have tried setting the flag in customer maintenance to 'no overide' but this prevents us from taking customer orders in the first place. Many of our customers schedule orders for months in advance, so they could have £20,000 worth of goods on order for delivery at £2,000 worth every month. We may wish to set their credit limit to £4,000 (due to poor payments etc) but if we we set 'no overide' we can't take the order. Strangely, Visual totals up what is outstanding on account and the total on order when applying the no overide function.
We need to stop goods going out of the door when the total owing is or will be greater than the credit limit. We can then ensure they pay something off on account.
How do others cope with controlling customers credit?

Try using the setting to Hold Shipments in customer maintenance. This will allow you to take the order for the customer but not ship anything.

We run a macro each night to look at CUSTOMER.CREDIT_LIMIT AND CUSTOMER.RECV_AGE_LIMIT. We compare them to CUSTOMER.TOTAL_OPEN_RECV and the date fo the oldest outstanding invoice.
If the customer is insde their credit limit and age limit we reset the CUSTOMER_STATUS to "A" (OK to Ship) otherwise it is set to "O" (Orders on Hold"
Credit limits are managed to reflect the the typical value of outstanding orders. If a customer exceeds his credit limit or days the Credit staff has to review the order prior to release
