Relational Modeling - Attributes require "Use as an Element Caption for language" column

I'm in the middle of migrating a client to v12 and using Relational Modeling to recreate the dimensions/cubes etc...

There is a missing field in the "Dimension Attribute" Staging table for the "Use as an Element Caption for language" option. I would like to be able to load into this table so it maps my "English" attribute field and use that as the Element Caption in App Studio reports.

The only way I can see to do this is after you've defined the attributes for a dimension is to go into OLAP Modeling and edit the attribute table with the "Use as an Element Caption for language" set:

Am I missing a step here? Asking before I raise this as an enhancement request?

Thanks for the response.

I'm using relational modelling (in conjunction with OLAP modelling) as the v11 model I am migrating is a combination of the standard Financial Consolidation module as well as a bespoke planning model. I'm therefore cherry picking which dimensions/cubes/etc... that are being migrated.

Also v11 is a live system so I need a method to quickly refresh parts from the bespoke planning model during implementation.

Therefore, I've come up with a set of tools to query the Designer SQL tables directly in the correct format for both the staging tables (for dimension elements) as well as the Object Definition Tables (for items like the Cube/Dimension/Dimension in Cube/Dimension Attribute/Hierarchy/etc...).

So in summary I find relational modelling a much quicker way to bulk update an OLAP model during migration.

When it comes to ongoing maintenance I find creating App Studio reports based on the relational modelling staging tables (mainly for dimension element changes that are not coming automatically updating from the source ledger system or Data Lake) so they can manipulate the structures and then run a App Engine script to publish the OLAP model a better route for them that having to explain how to use OLAP modelling.

For advanced users I would be happy to train them in using OLAP modelling.

Hi Mark,

this piece of information is not stored in any purpose-built column. It is part of the extended properties of the dimension. So it is encoded in the ExtendedProperties column of the table DEPM_MOD_DIMENSION.
