How to debug ION Monitor and Workflow?

Hi All,

I have created a monitor which starts a workflow like shown below. Both monitor and workflow are successfully active.

During testing, monitor is firing just fine and creating the alert but somehow workflow is not doing what it is supposed to do. I am calling FetchWhere and FieldUpdate API in the workflow.

Can you please help me debug the monitor/workflow and determine where could be the issue - is it at the monitor level or at the workflow level?

Active Workflows screen shows ZERO document completed/cancelled/failed.

That is probably a missing Workflow Authorization (ION->Authorizations->Workflow Authorizations). You assign START permission to a Security Role the users needing to start the flow are member of.

Hi Raghav,

Could you try a couple of things:

Try to start a workflow using the "Start workflow" widget.
Try to start a workflow using Process/Application API from API Gateway.

Our Developer modified the BOD to include some additional values for one of the fields we were keying off of., then he setup an Activation policy, that got our workflow to fire.

Just to make sure: You are clicking "Resolve" on the Alert to start the Workflow, correct?

Getting "Failed to start an instance of the workflow" when tried to resolve, but do not see details like why it is failing.

Thank you. Yes, I was missing the authorization and I have added one, shown below.
But I am still getting the same error message i.e. "Failed to start an instance of the workflow" while resolving the alert.

I tried another approach too - I created an Activation policy based on SalesOrder Document and I am starting the same workflow from this policy. This approach is also not working. Activation policy is not even triggering.

Please advise.

I tried the second method and it worked fine and did the desired update. Thanks Danil for this good information. Do we usually use these two methods to debug and fix workflow errors?

Hi Raghav,

I proposed these 2 options to check if you have sufficient permissions to start a workflow.
Are you still experiencing issues when you start it via the widget or from an Alert?

I just tried and its working fine now. I was able to resolve the alert and workflow fired too. Thank you very much.
