Possibility of creating an IDM Index / Table of Contents / Directory?

Hi there,

As part of our company's rollout of Infor Syteline, we are looking to use the IDM as a place to store our work instructions / standard operating procedure documents as it ticks a lot of our boxes when it comes to transparency with the document history, version control etc.

To that end, while the frequent users of the IDM can easily navigate to find the documents they are looking for, what would be useful to less frequent users would be to have a simplified format of this e.g. a table of contents style interface or a directory with a custom folder structure.

This would make this much more navigable for our co-workers who won't frequently use the system.

If there is no way of doing this with the IDM, alternative suggestions are also welcome!

Couple of thoughts.

I do not believe there is a way to do build a sort of table of contents with IDM, you can store the documents in IDM, and manually build out the ToC or directory structure, with links directly to the appropriate documents in IDM.

There may be a better method though. I cannot speak directly to Syteline, as I come from a different Cloudsuite, and I'm not familiar with Syteline's capabilities. But in our Cloudsuite, our ERP generates what are referred to as Infor Business Context messages, or IBC messages. These IBC messages contain information pertaining to the current context of the ERP system, including the particular screen you are on. Widgets within the OS Portal can then consume these IBC messages. Where this is useful is, you can have a widget running within your OS Portal, that can display documents from IDM, relevant to the screen you are currently viewing.

For example, if my user is on an Order Entry screen, then our "help" widget displays a link to our work instructions for order entry, which are stored in IDM.

Again, this may or may not be possible with Syteline.

This is part of Infor OS and there is an IDM widget called "Related Information" that has this functionality. We use it for drawings, item photos and specifications.

Hello Basil,

As Aaron mentions, the greatest strength of IDM is the contextual nature of delivering documents were needed.

This feature makes a directory or table of contents redundant.

If there is a document for the page you are on, then IDM serves you the document needed. If not, it doesn't exist.

Also, the search functionality is strong enough to cover the need.
