We need to implement Item Lifecycle Management (ILM) at a small number of our hospitals that currently have no application to manage recalls, without impacting the hospitals that have a recall management system in place. ILM's structure currently does not allow this.
When a query is run for a recall notice, it looks across the entire organization, even at locations that are not defined to ILM. If the query identifies a location affected by the recall and the location is not defined, ILM dynamically creates the location (as an orphan) and emails the Coordinator. Additionally, it attaches the recall notice to the identified item.
Support has verified that there is currently no way to modify this behavior. This prevents us from implementing ILM as planned: go live with the locations that have no recall management application, and then switch the other locations to ILM a few at a time.
We suggest adding a check box to the ILM Group configuration to tell ILM to only query the explicitly-defined locations. Undefined companies would be completely excluded from the query; their requesting locations would not be dynamically created, and no recall notices would be attached to their items.
