Lawson 10 Mingle/Portal User Interface

Some of our users in the process of testing our new LSF 10 installation are complaining about difficulty reading the Portal/Mingle screen, particularly due to the lack of contrast. Has anyone attempted to modify the color scheme of text or background?

Additionally, I find the plethora of tiny, obtuse icons in the upper right corner to be unintuitive and difficult to navigate. Even if I hover the mouse pointer over every one of them and read the flyover text, I'm still unclear as to what options I'll find under each one. I'm not a frequent user of Portal and I find that I need to open several of them before I locate the option I want. Would like to reorganize them to make options more accessible.

Thanks so much for pointing that out. It is very helpful. The document mentions "Future SoHo Readability Improvements, including darker font colors, enhanced backgrounds, enhanced toolbar background, darker icons, darker buttons...Target late 2014." Are these included in our current Mingle version 11.1.5.616 or are we still waiting for them? The "For more detail please visit" soho.infor.com/blog site is not found.

Yes, that was an internal site. There were improvements made in LSF 10.0.6 released at the end of 2014. More in 10.0.7 in April 2015. Your Ming.le version should be fine.

Lack of colors and contrast seems like a significant thing to overlook. As if the Q&A department was too clinical (not real users).

For example, in the Inbasket the submenu bar of Open, Refresh, Approve,etc. One can only see those functions as buttons when you hover over them. This may seem like a no-brainer for designers and power users. However, companies do have folks who are instructed 'press the button labelled xxx'. Menus like that do not first appear a buttons.

This is very similar to my experience with other software. I use Google Maps a lot (check traffic for commuting) and in the last year it has become so washed-out, I can barely see side roads on it. Are developers using special expensive monitors with higher contrast than us poor mortals? I can see better if I tilt my monitor or laptop screen back a whole lot, which increases contrast. Even worse, I've heard complaints that newer monitors don't have the contrast that older monitors had.

The same goes for Windows itself, I think. Different areas of the window are all very slightly different shades of the same color, some even transparent. It's difficult sometimes to tell where one thing leaves off an another begins. Very annoying.

That's the clue we all needed. This is related to a new concept in Windows, "Themes". I right-clicked on a blank part of my screen, pulled up "Personalize", and found an area listed as, "Basic and High Contrast Themes". The "Windows 7 Basic" theme looks washed-out. There is another washed-out theme, then 4 that are listed as "High Contrast". These make a huge difference.

Perhaps SoHo is linking in to Windows Themes. Try adjusting the Theme and see if it makes a difference.

Please elaborate with specific instructions. I do not find Peronalize as an option on a blank window. Also, is this limited to Windows desktops / laptops? What about MACs?

With my system, Windows 7, the 'standard' path is, Start -> Control Panel -> Personalization. This has to be set up on each user's desktop. I can't help with Windows 8 or Windows 10.

Sorry, I can't help with Mac computers. There may be some way to adjust the 'theme' but I don't use one.

I appreciate the instructions. Unfortunately, it affects all aspects of a desktop / laptop, not just the browser. In addition, it would require adjusting all desktops / laptops. We were hoping for a server based option to limit the affect to just Infor.

We have been through many of these same issues with Smart Office, but is has gotten better with time and many versions. I for one, am glad Infor has the in-house design firm because I think we will see improvements over time with the look and feel, consistency, standards, etc. I just hope they will do a better job balancing that goal with workers and equipment in the real world, like some of you have mentioned...having middle-age or older workers test it out on regular monitors, making icons/processes more self-evident so that we don't need documentation to learn what icons are, etc.
