Spreadsheet Designer slow performance

Spreadsheet Designer is driving me crazy and Infor says they can't replicate the problem. My ISD is extremely slow - 35 minutes to upload 1000 rows.And, that's if it's even successful. Most of the time I get the dreaded popup box ... (which Infor says they can't recreate) ... Sometimes where I get this error, it has actually loaded all the rows, but not all the time. Sometimes, it quits somewhere in the middle, in which case I have to stop and go back to see where it quit loading, and either start over or find a new starting place.

I am in the process of trying to upload 172,000 rows and this is killing me. Has anyone experienced this or have a clue what is wrong?

A few observations I've made:

It is painfully slow when you're using business classes that Infor has disabled Batch Uploading on, such as Employee, Candidate, etc. I think they do this to prevent someone from accidentally nuking their entire organization with a bad ISD upload but, in doing so, it also makes adding a new field to all existing profiles absolutely awful.
ISD somehow references your ActorRole setup. If you personally have a bunch of ActorRoles, that makes ISD take a lot longer than necessary. If possible, set up a maintenance/test account and just give it Admin_ST or something similar. Having one role should make the load run a lot faster.
I get that popup a lot, too, so anytime I'm trying to do a load that's more than like 200 rows I like to dedicate excel to only that single process for the duration it's running. It doesn't make it fast but it speeds it up if you close down any other tabs/sheets beforehand.
With huge loads like this, I like to highlight ~2,000 rows (whatever number you like would be fine) and run the upload in batches. This way I can save periodically throughout the process and know where it left off if/when it inevitably fails!

Thank you! I'm glad (not glad) to see someone else is seeing this error. I appreciate the ideas to investigate. Hopefully I can figure out something to turn this task into something a little quicker...

Hi Elizabeth. I'm not sure what business class(es) you are importing to but there are import processes that run faster than ISD when importing to Employee, WorkAssignment, Address, Contacts, etc.

Use the DBImport to load the records to the staging table, then use the import processes to write the records, or
Use ISD instead of DBimport to load the records to the staging table, then use the import processes to write the records

for both options you would reference the HCM File Layouts spreadsheet included with the monthly release notes for field info.

note - the dbimport process takes seconds to do the initial load and then the importing can be done in batches and that'll take longer but in my opinion it is faster than ISD.

Thank you for suggesting DBImport. I know I need to investigate that, but I don't do these big files very often so I've put it off. Will definitely look into it now. I'm loading work assignment history from a 3rd party system for an implementation project. This one is the largest group of records I've had to deal with because they are loading so much history. Again, thanks for the suggestion, and I am going to look at this today.

I've had some success tweaking the Page size for query mode performance issues. I turn off auto compute and then set the page size to 5000 and it ran much better for query mode. I've also been asked to turn batch mode on or off to try to work around problems and have had some success with that as well. No idea if this is applicable for this particular issue but figured it couldn't hurt to pass on my experience. And I understand this is an upload issue so maybe the page size parameter has no impact.
