Allocating stock to customer orders

I have tried (in our test data base) to allocate on hand inventory to a customer order. I get the following message even though I have plenty of stk on hand. We have never used allocations but are attempting to. Here is the error message I get.
"This transaction creates a negative allocation. Proceed?" when I proceed it ends in a sql error.
