How-To get a list of all attachments in Application Engine?

Use Case: There should be a scheduled automation via Process Cockpit that runs an App Engine script, which checks for attachments that meet specific criteria and then triggers actions, e.g. attachments older than x day to be deleted.

How to get there?

I had submitted an enhancement request to provide an AppEngine a function that would allow access to attachments since we have several AppEngine processes that create attachments. For example, ideally a new function would allow retrieval of the attachments list (with parameters to limit the list). And perhaps additional function(s) to get properties of the attachment. It was closed with "Will not be implemented".

We then updated all our scripts that create attachments to log the creation to a staging table. We implemented a script that runs on a schedule to purge any attachments meeting purge criteria; specifically: purging by file name mask, author, creating process name, age (in days).
