upgrading to V10 and General Ledger
cpashley
Our organization is upgrading to V10 and going live on 4/18. Our Finance department will not have the GL closed for one of our companies. Has anyone had any issues with this? We will be validating all data from GL reports but we are wondering if not having this closed will be an issue.

I wouldn't think it would be an issue. It seems like it would be similar to having journal entries in different statuses - unreleased, released, posted, history. All of the data SHOULD come into v10 exactly as you have it in v9.

For each of our prior four upgrades, we have done our best to have all subledgers and GL ledger closed. Not worrying as much as about improper migration of data, but rather, having a clean period with which all departments could review / compare data before and after the conversion. As some upgrades might change the use of flag and its meaning with a process, unprocessed records have the potential of skewing the before and after totals.

Thanks Jason. I feel the same way. The technical copy has been done. This is just the data capture. I did not know if there was someone who had upgraded to V10 and had an issue. I wanted to prepare for it if need be.

I didn't see anything in the upgrade documentation concerning this. Additionally, most (all?) companies will have more than one GL period open with activity at any given point in time. The system allows you to post almost two years forward.

Tammy - Our organization is upgrading to version 10 and going live on Monday also! Good luck to us both!

I agree, there shouldn't be any issue to having open periods since there are constantly transactions coming in from other subsystems. However, a recommendation I've seen is to make sure that you don't have anything sitting in the import tables (GL65) and release/post as much as possible.
