Termination Pending to Term Final

Hello,

We use a termination action to move an employee into a termination pending status, and then a change relationship to org action to move them from termination pending to termination final after approx 45 days. We submit the two actions at the same time, but with the different effective dates. The actions are submitted by an HR Administrator.

We've come across an issue where, if the initial termination action is submitted prior to the effective date of the term, the subsequent change relationship to org action is clearing out the termination date for that employee:

IE, the termination for John Doe is submitted on 5/1 with an effective date of 5/5, and the change relationship to org action is submitted on 5/1 with an effective date of 6/30. When 6/30 comes around, John is moved into our term final status, but the termination date that was on his profile has been removed.

Frustratingly, after submitting a ticket, I've been told this is working as designed, which I absolutely do not believe. Has anyone else had this issue?

Since you are doing both the same day and both are future dated, the change relationship status is changing from current status 'active' to 'term final'. The employee is not 'term pending' when you do the change relationship status since it is future dated.

Good morning! We had the same issue and received the same response of "working as designed". We had to change our process to allow our business owners to process terminations with a term pending status, then we (the HRIS team) would complete an upload changing all term pending employees to Term Final, this retains the termination date on the record. We do this every 35 days after the employee is term pending to allow for all final pay to process. It's not ideal, but has become part of our standard processing. Hope this helps.

We use IPA to automate this. The Term Pending action is entered as normal with a term date. The IPA runs daily to find people whose term date was x number of days ago and enters a term final action. The same flow also changes people from Prehire to Active status automatically.

Thank you. I find this very frustrating, but I think we will need to change our process as well! Do you use ChangRelToOrg or Termination for the term final?

Thank you. I still feel that it's buggy, though. It seems as though any field could get changed without the user knowing.

Correct. It runs once a day and just looks for people in term pending status whose term date is older than the date range we set for how long to have between term pending and term final. It submits a second Terminate action with a Term Final reason.
