What is Lawson 4GL.

What is Lawson 4GL. Where can I find documentation for this for lawson version 10 and also where can I download this tool?

Up to Version 9 there were 2 manuals, "Application Development Workbench" and "ADW Standards". These were the "Bible" for 4GL.

The 4GL tools help you write COBOL programs that contain all of the Lawson metadata structures, restrictions and links. Unfortunately in version 11, Infor plans on abandoning COBOL. IMO, this will be a huge mistake. 'Nuf said.

Thanks for the info. I had been struggling for last few days in finding out what is 4gl. Infor guided me to use this. Do you know what tool can be used to add or remove a field from lawson canned report without creating a custom report.

I think there is a new tool called Lawson Smart Reports that lets you modify the output of the reports. It is supposed to be free to use.

The 4GL is known at the command line as "pgmdef". To change a field on a screen: If you change a canned report, the report is then "customized" and will not be updated upon application of any CTP. If you copy a canned report to a new report, then modify the screen on the new report, that's a "Custom Report". Changes to the original report will be applied automatically via CTP. Then those changes need to be re-applied to the custom report. A third method was outside of the 4GL, where you use Smart Office to modify the screen definition at the web end. This method does not touch the underlying canned report and will be re-applied to a new report if it gets updated by a CTP. I believe that it can only remove/hide fields, not add fields, however I have not used it much in the past and am no expert. Infor 10X adds more customizing capabilities, which I'm not yet very familiar with.
