Stock Out Report?
denise
Okay, I know anything is possible...., but is it feasible/doable to create or get a "Stock Out" report out of Visual 7.0? Any good thoughts on how to do this? Thanks,
Rob

Are you just looking for a negative inventory report?
If so, you could just go to Part Maintenance, open the Part Search and edit those columns to show qty on hand, and then filter to only show
You can then export to Excel from the File drop down menu within there.

That could be the first part, but they want to see when it was zero inv, and when there was a demand for that part.

It's doable, but by no means easy.
For every part you want a stock out date for, you need to parse through every released or firmed Customer Order, Purchase Order, Work Order, Planned Order, and Work Order Requirement. I collected them all into a standard format of DOCUMENT, DATE, QTY and ordered by date. Then you take your current qty on hand, and add or subtract each 'future transaction' that you just collected. When you hit 0, (or your safety stock number) then you have your stock out date.
I did this using two sql cursors - one for the future documents, and one for the parts I wanted dates for. If cursors aren't your thing, you can use for loops in your programming language of choice.

Maybe I'm confused but aren't we just looking for the last transaction date of parts the

That depends on whether you're looking for when DID we run out, or when WILL we run out.

Actually this is pretty easy with a standard Visual report. The way I run the Material Planning Report every day does this.
InventoryMaterial Planning WindowFilePrint Material Planning Report
Check only the following in the left hand column of parameters:
[Parts with shortages only]
[Fabricated parts only] or [Purchased parts only]
[Net available quantity]
You can sequence by Part ID, Planner, whatever.
Net by Date
Part selection, choose All parts
Select whatever horizon makes sense. You can limit it to two a week or two weeks if you want to check what is going to stock-out within that time frame.
This will produce a report that ignores Safety Stock and Planned Orders, and will show you only parts that are going to stock-out due to real demand.
Also, the Visual Throughput WindowMaterial Constraint is designed to show you which parts are the greatest production constraints.
You might want to check into DDMRP and the Replenishment+ tool, it produces a prioritized list for planners.
Synergy Resources' Trial Kit does not show stock-outs, but it is a phenomenal multi-level BOM tool that shows which products are ready-to-build, and which ones have parts shortages, and you can instantly find out which parts are not coming in on time, then click on the part, hit a button and be at the Material Plannng Window to follow up.
If you look at Infor's "poster child' for scheduling, L&H Industrial, you will find out they use a program of customization by John McKee, who worked with *** Lilly to develop Visual, which program provides enhanced Throughput Window functionality and other improvements to MRP that allow greater flow without increasing staff.
My 2 cents worth.
