Workspace/Mingle Intro Materials
unknown
Do any intro or differences materials exist for users moving from LID/Portal to Workspace/Mingle basic? We are not upgrading this year but would like to know in advance what type of learning curve our users will be faced with when we move to V10.
Also, our power users have cited a number of shortcomings in Portal vs. LID such as slower data entry, quirky print/job scheduler navigation and drill features. Are these addressed in the new client?
Thanks.

The only thing I noticed which was improved in 10 portal is that changing the reports works in Windows which it didn't in 9 even though it worked in Unix. All of the quirkiness is still there for print manager, job scheduler, and job definition (define the job from the bottom up). The screens are not good for headsdown data entry. Drill in the portal still requires additional mouse clicks. I have always heard a lot of complaints about mouse clicks, and that should continue.
From my perspective, Ming.le doesn't add value or beauty. We only run S3 and IPA. The users have to go into Ming.le to click on the building to go to S3. You can go directly to S3 through Ming.le referencing the Logical ID, but I have yet to get it to work.
The inbasket will be our biggest learning curve. In Ming.le, it is very clunky, and I actually prefer the web canvas although moving my mouse is my biggest issue with this presentation. We use a lot of Design Studio pages, so the Rich Client is not really a good option for us for the inbasket. In portal through Ming.le, there is a list off the left which makes people think they can click on them or scroll to later tasks; but they are just a list of the work by task. They need to click on My Tasks/Work. There seems to be a lot of confusion by users what the difference is between My Tasks, My Work, My Requests, and My Actions although it seems logical to me. IPA allows email response, so that should reduce the number of people going to the inbasket for approvals/denials. If someone is approving from an email on their phone, it is a bit more work. Proxy access was added to inbasket, but it requires a good deal of security to get proxy access.

We are in the testing phase for V10/Mingle S3 here. We have noticed even slower performance with V10/Mingle as we did with Portal. Anyone else noticing this?

If you're not on IE 11 be sure to test it. There can be issues w/ Ming.le and IE11.
We saw some cursor placement issues and some other display issues. Something about the document mode downloaded from the server to user's browser. You have to set it back to IE10 or IE9. Probably your version is fixed already.
We're on Mingle 11.1.3.479 or at least that's what our info buttonsays in Mingle.
We're on Lawson 10.0.5.
Our version Mingle is "highly recommended". You can still use the portal.
It's a great debugging tool for browser issues.

Thanks for all the encouragement, I'm sure my Finance and HR users will be thrilled to hear this
We just upgraded most of our systems to IE11 but will not be implementing Infor V10 for another year so who knows what the landscape will look like by then. I do not mind Infor forcing application users to a new client since LID was indeed outdated, but I do mind hearing that the productivity shortcomings in Portal which have existed for 6 years are still there plus now we have to wrap it with yet another technology layer. We will hope for the best, Infor still has another year to make good on this before we install.

Good morning all -
Let me take a crack at trying to help.
jjotoole - from your original quesiton, you are are really asking two different questions. Moving from LID to anything versus moving from Portal to Ming.le (get rid of Workspace - it doesn't exist anymore).
End users moving from Portal (v9x) to Ming.le (v10x) is very easy and users will need little to no additional training to hit the ground running in moving to a v10x environment.
End users moving from LID to a browser (Ming.le or Portal) is much more of a training effort. Back when I was a customer over a decade ago we tackled this move with our end users and we did a full on training class. The solution has a evolved a bit since then (of course) but there is still a need to reevaluate business process when making this move. There are things that customers do in LID everyday that don't work real well in a browser. But there are other efficiencies that can be gleaned using things like Addins, Design Studio, etc that will make their lives easier. This is really a project in itself - Redesigning business processes to better work in a browser based world.
One thing that Ming.le brings to the table is Contextual Applications. This will help end users. They reduce the need to keep clicking around to different screens and doing drill around for finding related information. It does not solve every problem, but it certainly improves the situation. Req to Check, Employee Information, Print Manager are some of the key ones.
AngelaC - I am not sure what issue you are having with the logical ID - its pretty straight forward and covered by two slides in the attached presentation. Many customers are using this approach to eliminate the Ming.le Foundation welcome screen which is not useful for most customers.
Inbasket is a completely different application than Portal. Inbasket is coming from IPA and from Landmark, Portal is going against LSF (S3). Its not surprising that they don't have the same experience. But the Inbasket screen was redesigned in HTML5 in the latest versions of IPA and does not have to be launched within Ming.le (it can be). So there are lots of options with regard to how you interact as an end user depending on preference.
Todd - with regard to performance - you should get a case logged with the Lawson Tech team. There are two big KB articles with lots of information on performance in Ming.le - lots of configuration steps, lots of JTs. The only thing that should be slightly slower is the initial login. Once past that - everything should be the same - that's the expectation of a properly patched and configured system. So if you aren't there, make sure that you get a case opened.
And if you run IE - make sure that you have a key IE patch installed - its in those KB articles and Support knows it, but its a huge improvement.
Chrome by far is the fastest performing browser - so if you have that as an option to you, that's what you should be running.
I am interested in Turnto's comment on their Ming.le version (11.1.3) being highly recommended. Its actually an old version and I think we are up to 11.1.8 - not sure why you would run an older version on purpose.
I have attached a few documents that might help. I am also recommending you check out the links and recorded videos on Ming.le and v10 that are all found in the Infor Lawson 10.x Information Center. You can find that document on Infor Xtreme, Search, Browse Documentation, and then choose Lawson on the left. On the right, you will see the Information Center as the 2nd entry in the list. Ming.le is on page 2.
