FACTS 7.7 Live Customers

Has anyone upgraded a customer to any incremental of FACTS 7.7 yet? If so, are they live and actively using it. What incremental? How did it go? Was it a smooth transition and does it seem stable?

We have had one customer live on 7.7.2 (Upgraded from 7.5) for the 3 weeks.They are a 24 user account. Our first upgrade took an enourmous amount of time, mainly getting used to the metadata. Watch out for the new file locking scheme and the removal of SMCNTL records. It was a little bumpy for the first week but seems to have quited down significantly. The version appears extremely stable, and whatever problems we encountered the fixes were generally available on the KB.

They have two branchs that are using Windx and it's a little slower than what they were used to. Since this is our first one, we are evaluting how we're going to preceed with the rest of the customer base. If your customer has not upgraded hardware in a few years, it's definetly worth examing that as well.

We're in the process of scheduling our next go live, hopefully by the end of the month. We also significantly underestimated the time required to port the modifications over, there's just so much to look out for.

We have 5 live 7.7 accounts. They are all under 12 users and single branch. Three areas I would advise everyone to consider; build in at least one incremental upgrade into the sale, train users on "Open as a Window" and lauching multiple accesses to FACTS during inquiries and manage the installation closely as to revisions of programs being installed and metadata. Also, as presented on other threads, make sure the server and the network exceed the 7.7 hardware and operating specifications.

Do you mean multiple WindX sessions or utilizing "auto open"? And, are you suggesting this as well as "Open as a Window" for performance reasons or for some other reason(s)?

Could you elaborate on this? Why specifically would 7.7 need to be treated differently than prior FACTS versions?

Yes on the multiple WindX sessions either "auto open" or manually. Yes on performance issues but also due to content changes in the input views layouts.
If the fix is critical, Infor will issue it or a work around prior to the release of the incremental. If the correction involves Metadata then the forthcoming incremental may expect data different than what is actually installed on the customers system.
