Printer (prtdef) setups for Ricoh Printers
sean-howlin
Has anyone had success setting up LSF prtdef definitions for Ricoh printers?
There appears to be a known issue with the Ricoh drivers accepting the default LSF paper type of "Letter". When I try to print to a Ricoh printer, I get the error message ""Letter" paper is unknown or unsupported by the printer.
We do not have any issues in prtdef with the HP printers, or the Lexmark printers, however we cannot get the Ricoh printers to work. I see this is a known issue reported in KB 1489346, but I have yet to find a resolution.
Any other admin resolutions for this issue would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Marilyn Sizemore

Maybe you could set up a script that gets executed from the prtdef command.
I set up a script, webprint.bat below to send to a print que:
cat > D:lawprod empprtfile.%pid%
lpr -Shmcanyq -PAnyqLaw D:lawprod empprtfile.%pid%
rm D:lawprod empprtfile.%pid%
Then in the prtdef I use this command:
/lawprod/gen/bin/webprint.bat
This is not exactly what you would be doing, but may give you some ideas.

We had that same issue. We created a second queue for those printers and used either a generic print driver or even the HP 4000 print driver and got them to work. We had to play around with them to find the drivers that would work. We labeled those queues with a prefix of LAW_ and then the regular print queue name to help distinguish it as a Lawson queue so the driver would not get updated by our staff. By doing the second queue the users have all the functionality for regular print jobs, but Lawson works as well.

Hi Marilyn. You might consider changing your print command to exclude the paper type and set that as default in the print driver on the OS. If you need to support multiple paper types, you may need to create a separate logical queue for each physical printer, with each defaulting one of those forms.

Thanks to everyone who responded - it's much appreciated.
We tried out lbrantley's fix and we setup our Ricoh printer with a universal HP driver and that worked.
We had setup a server printer definition for both portrait & landscape modes (ex: printername_L, printername_P) Using the universal driver, the printer 'landscape' default did not work by default, so I simply added the '-o Landscape' switch to the laprint command in the definition and we are back up and running. The actual printed document file looks good.
Thanks again everyone!

Has anyone had any trouble getting Lanier printers to print on AIX 7.1?
Any input greatly appreciated.
