Surgery Returns
dechevar
How are people dealing with the large volume of returns from surgery procedures? My staff struggles having to enter a negative sign for every item. Their previous system could default to a credit and they could just scan and enter quantity. I personally think that returns from the floor should a separate form with a different transaction type. This would help track productivity issues when we keep picking extra items that are not used.

RQ35 Req Returns is the form designed for mass returns. The challenge is that OR staff have to leave the returned goods in usable condition AND marked with the original RQ number. If you can train them to do that, returns to stock are much easier.

Unfortunately, RQ35 requires sitting at the computer to process the returns. We want to use the handheld to take the return cart and process the returns as we put them back on the shelf. RQ35 creates inefficiencies in either having to label the product when they go up, or printing out delivery tickets for every case cart that the nurses will need to hold on to for the returns. Also, we interface to Optime and receive picks from Epic. These end up being direct issue so RQ35 doesn't work.

We've used handhelds for issues and credits before. Are you able to do issues with a handheld, scanning the bar codes on shelf labels as you pick?

Yes. The issues are fine. The inefficiency is having to stop and enter a negative sign for every return to the shelf. It a thorn in their side because their old system could be set to auto credit the returns as they were scanned.

Agreed. MSCM RAD is some help, POU and RQ35 also helpful. The root problem is still people who do "midnight dumping" of returns on a cart and expect MM staff to clean it up. Perhaps more functionality could be built into MSCM in RAD and POU. Would suggest creating Enhancement Request, or if you have already done that, let us know the ER number so we can vote for it.

Enhancement request? This is something that we would like to see as well.
