roth 401k
unknown
my company started a roth 401k (after tax) Jan 1. We already had a pre-tax 401k. I added the aftertax roth deduction and aftertax company deduction on the bn15.1. on the bn18.6 screen I said the pretax was the default and you matched on both. When you do to the bn31.2 and add the plan it creates the pretax employee and company deductions, which understand because of the default. I does not create the roth 401k or company on that. So I have been making the pretax deduction for company and employee 0 (for those who just want the after tax deduction) and creating the roth employee and company side. This seems like a long way around . I am not a plan person. Is there a better way?????

There used to be some KB articles available that showed how to do this. I just did a quick search and could not find the number.
We don't default the tax type. Ours works very well.
If you've added the deductions outside of benefits, you will most likely need to place an end date on them manually since they are not linked by seq no. Not a big deal, just letting you know.

I just though of something else.
You should be able to override the default of pretax when entering elections on BN31 or BN32.
