BSI 10 Client
serafino
Has anybody actually installed BSI 10 and the "client" software? Curious to know how that went.

Just finished the test install today. Applied app and env patches, installed tomcat and followed the bsi docs. No big issues.

Just wondering. We've been struggling with the "client" for a few days. Nothing I do will get Tomcat to run that app, but it's happy to run anything else I stick in there.
unknown
I have it (Tomcat6) loaded as a Windows service and set the CATALINA_HOME variable on the server. It's running on port 8080. Also using Oracle for db.

Me too. The trouble is the BSI app isn't starting. We're waiting for BSI support to get back to us. I was curious if anyone else may have had issues.

We're on 9.0.1.12 env and 9.0.1.5 apps. You?

For those of you that have already installed the BSI 10 client, do you have a separate install of the client for your production and test systems? Also, where are you installing the client? We have always installed the client on the PC's of each of our payroll users so now we are scrambling to find a place to install it. Did you set up a machine specifically for the BSI client or did you install it on an existing server along side other applications?

Here we also typically installed BSI on pc's. That was the initial approach for v10 as well. That install (10.0.c1) was a struggle with a couple of chats with support to get through it as well as the challenge of trying to decipher the updated documentation. Then we hit the wall on multiple connections (test/dev/prod) and had to wait for 10.0.d. I did the 10.0.d update on my pc and that went smoother now that I had been through it. But that experience drove me to a server install. We have smart office running with separate VM slices for test, dev & prod. I did the BSI server install on my test smart office server. I have 10.0.d there and a separate connection configured for test/dev/prod and that looks like it will work for us. It looks like there will some memory considerations with 3 BSI connections and the associated java processes, but for us, the test smart office server seemed like a good location. Now that we have v10 running in test we need user testing to commence.... we are an AIX/oracle shop running LSF9.0.1.12 and apps 9.0.1.7

A central server was my next step. I'm no stranger to Tomcat (I wish the WAS piece ran on straight Tomcat), but this is more of a challenge than it should be. We're an all-Oracle shop running 9.0.1.6 apps on 9.0.1.12.
@Frank
, if you can shed some light, you'd be a hero

Sal, my candle is lit, what can I shed its light on for you?

Frank Dusek - are you saying that it is possible to install this on the user's PC rather than on a server? We only have two user's that need the client, and don't have any servers available to install this on - so wondering if I need to have some virtuals defined or if a user PC install would work. Thanks.

So from this thread, I am gathering that the install is different than 9.0? We have always installed the client on both the Lawson app server and the user's machines as well.

Yes, you can install v10 on a pc. I am running Win7-professional and installed 10.0.c1, and then 10.0.d on my pc. I do the bulletin updates, server installs etc. and having it on my pc works for me. The install is the same for either pc or server from what I have seen. We are an oracle shop so I already had the oracle client s/w on my pc, then I installed tomcat (32-bit service in my case) downloaded the JDBC driver for oracle (ojdbc6.jar in my case, full list is in the back of the install guide if you haven't looked at it yet). I did the client install, the configuration got me the first time I installed, but support got me pointed down the right path again.
Hope this helps.

Greetings,
I was hesitant to install Tomcat on the Windows Server because I heard rumors that Tomcat and IIS don't play too well together. The last thing I want to do is damage my Lawson installs. I am just beginning my TF10 install to test with, so I am attempting an install on my laptop. But I was thinking, with this new client install, perhaps it would be best to simply install this client on my Lawson PROD server and simply share the weblink with the end users. Wouldn't this be much simpler than installing all of this stuff to each users PC that needs to access TF as well as making Cyclic updates much easier?

Frank, what's the magic? I get context not found after a "clean" install with no errors.
vikki-cheal
Where do you see this context not found message?
serafino
When I open a browser to
localhost:8091/.../PRD
I get a login screen, but if I open a browser to
localhost:8092/.../DEV
I get a context error. I know the server is running because I get a different error if I'm outside the context or if I turn the service off.

I'm a little confused about the 10c1 client. I installed it on my PC and did the upgrade and was fine until I attempted to install the client on a PC in Payroll. Although everything is running on the PR PC the website gets a 404 error. Once I got back to my desk my login had timed out and now I can't log back in. Does 10c1 not allow more than one client install? I thought 10d allowed multiple clients on a single PC.

Sal- I did not come across that error during my install so I'm not sure what to tell you, has BSI support offered any suggestions?
serafino
BSI "suggests" I don't know how to set up the ODBC source. I'm not even going to comment on that.
Will give this another go today. Iwill set up all six identically and see how many of them work.
serafino
Problem solved with persistance and testing. BSI can't handle ODBC to a database cluster. Not going to comment on that, either.

For those that installed the client on a separate Windows Web Server, did you set up an alias for the URL that the users will access? I'm not schooled in TomCat and can't seem to find anything on exactly what I want to do. I know I need an alias entry in our DNS server, but I believe there is a piece I need in the TomCat configuration. Any help would be appreciated!
Working URL:
http://myhost:8081/etf10d/prod
Would love to use an alias like: tf10dProd
