AP146-file going to IRS with columns missing
cpashley
We are getting ready to send our 1099 file to the IRS. Our IT consultant that would get this file ready for us is no longer with our organization. I have a document with the process and it states that the file needs to be parsed to recover numeric positions from 663-772. I also read a KB article that had information regarding certain columns that the IRS does not need. Can anyone provide me with their practice for sending the AP146 tape to the IRS? Thank you in advance for your help on this issue.

I have never had to do anything with the AP146 tape file other than download it from the server and upload it to the IRS page.

We've had to convert the file into fixed format ascii file using a Lawson utility called ‘cnvexp’.
To find out what the fixed length you should go
http://fire.irs.gov
and check Publication 1220 form 4419. The Electronic filing specifications will tell you the fixed record lengths.
Then convert the file in this manner, at the $ command prompt: cnvexp –f AP146 750 > ap146_luc_20XX.txt. (XX = Year) The number 750 is the fixed record length.

Are there any users in this community that are from Wisconsin and have filed their 1099's as combined? Have you had to do anything to the AP146 tape file. This would tell me if the AP146 is written correctly to send or not.
