Upgrading from 9.0.1 to Lawson 10
Legacy Contributor
Anyone that has upgraded to Lawson 10 from 9.0.x be willing to speak to us and share your experience? We are on 9.0.1, ESP 5 and upgrading to ESP 12 shortly due to our version of Oracle being decomissioned. Our current apps are 9.0.1.6, the plan was to upgrade to 9.0.1.9 but upper management wants us look at going to Lawson 10. We know that we have to do the ESP first. We still have a group of users on LID as they use scripts to run Payroll (for ftp's from the time and attendance system, etc). IT and Payroll still on LAUA. We have only rolled out Smart Office to a handful of users. Thanks..

Haven't done the upgrade, so I can't suggest anything about that. Here's how we got business users off LID.
For simple scripts that don't require much error checking, I set up Bookmarks they can click on to execute. The bookmark points to a script in the CGI directory ($GENDIR/cgi-bin).
For long running scripts, an Admin can set up user tokens (tokendef) and add that script to a user's job (jobdef). User tokens don't have a Productline. Portal requires a Productline, so users can't add the steps themselves. Give them instructions to not touch the user token steps in jobs. Parameter changes in regular application programs are OK. Inquire and submit.

Just bear in mind how much effort is required for LS9 as well.
This of course depends on how granular you need to go, and how critical Company access is.
The phrase 'Well I had access on LID!' will get to haunt you, unless you leave access very open.

I am very much under the opinion that the more you can do now, the better, especially security. You don't want to run into issues when testing your 10 upgrade and have to wonder if it's related to version 10 or if it's security related. Same goes with LBI and Process Flow if you're using either one of those. I upgraded those plus all the tech stuff (Oracle, OS, Cobol Compiler, etc) before attempting our LSF 10 upgrade (started the project in December, go-live is next weekend).
Our upgrade experience has been pretty good overall, the bulk of our issues have been around our customizations, specifically with several of our Design Studio forms. We have had some application issues (resolved with existing CTP's) and a few environment issues (but development has been fixing them almost as fast as we found them). We are going live with 10.0.4 env and apps.

Out of curiosity how many IT people do you have on the project? There are only 3 of us that do everything from Project Management, custom coding, and support. Meaning, we will have a regular job to do along with the upgrade. We are upgrading the environment to esp 12 (Oracle, OS, Cobol compiler etc) over the next few months. We are also rolling out Smart Office. We looking at installing Framework Services to attach LBI to Portal after the ESP (right now we don't use LBI). We also have a great deal of custom code because of the different union rules involving compensation and accruals. Not many design studio screens but custom code within Lawson libraries and stand-alone programs that create files to send to third parties like the retirement system. Another concern we have is that we haven't archived data since 1999 and we have some huge tables. Any issues with Ming.le? Our ESS is also customized. Did you have Workspace installed and running before the upgrade?
Good luck with your go live, let me know how it goes.

We have 3 IT staff working on the project, plus my manager who has been helping with some of the tech and project management items as well. I personally have been dedicated to install and migration details, while my two co-workers have primarily worked on customizations. We have many custom programs and a few actual customizations to Lawson delivered code.
In regards to archive, we've been live on Lawson since 2000 and have implemented some archiving in Payroll (only keep 5 years online) and materials. GL or HR or AP has never archived. We have about 8,000 employees currently. Significant work has gone into improving the upgrade programs. I think our last upgrade (8-9) took about 20 hours to run the copy jobs. The 9-10 upgrade jobs run in about 4 hours.
Since Workspace/Mingle only run the 10 apps, no we did not have that running prior to this project. Everything will be switched on go-live. There have been a few issues there regarding Portal working within Mingle (even though Mingle is the primary interface, Portal basically just runs inside Mingle), but like I said in my previous post, development has been pretty good with releases portal patches to fix the issues we've run into.
We have some customizations in ESS as well, and those had to be re-applied.

I should also mention that on www.inforcommunities.com there is a group dedicated to Lawson 10x. There are 2 upcoming virtual meetings scheduled...April 11 and 18. A forum for hearing from customers who have upgraded and those in the middle as well as those who are researching the project right now.

We are the in the last group. Scheduled to upgrade our environment to 9.0.1.11 (with 9.0.1.6 apps) by end of May. Get and test API's by end of October. Migrate to production mid-November.

Do I have to register for the virtual meetings? Are the meetings different or the same meeting on different dates?
Thank you.

What is the group name and how do I subscribe for it?
Thanks
sarb-nahal
The group name is "Infor Lawson Technology Group".
On the left pane under "Infor Communities" click "View all Infor Communities" and select "Infor Lawson Technology Group". There should be a link to subscribe. I THINK.
Legacy Contributor
Thanks I subscribed for it.
How do I register for the virtual meeting?
Legacy Contributor
I thought I noted that if you are using TaxFactory (moving from 9 to 10), the minimum requirement was 9.0.1.12, but I could be wrong.

I opened an incident yesterday and here is what I received to document minimum requirements.

How do I register for the virtual meeting? And, where do you see that there even is one? Thanks..

The group name is "Infor Lawson 10x". When you sign into the site, go to "Communities", then "Find a Community". Click the button next to "Lawson", then it's the 9th one on the list. You don't have to register, all the web-ex information is on the site for the upcoming calls.

This doesn't work for me. I logged onto Infor Xtreme and clicked Communities. It brought up my communities. I did not see anything like "Find a community". Am I looking at the wrong site?

Yes, you want to go to www.inforcommunities.com .
