BSI Tax 10 Upgrade - dbreorg
deanna-plant
We are preparing to upgrade to BSI Tax Factory v10. Wondering if anyone has done the upgrade yet & if so, was a dbreorg required in the CTP patch? We are wanting to know this for the purposes of refreshing our test productline prior to the upgrade - whether we can refresh from production (non patched) data to test patched region after the upgrade.

I don't remember (and I've rebuilt that productline since and no longer have the log file) but you can do a patch preview for changes.

Hello. We just did a fresh install of LSF10x and upgraded to BSI TF10. We did have to apply CTP100735, however no regorg was needed in our system:
lawappinstall ACTIVATE installation started at 07/17/2014 14:00:58 for the following deliverables: PATCH100735.2.
07/17/2014 14:01:00 Database preparation.
07/17/2014 14:01:00 Executing bldckp.
07/17/2014 14:01:00 bldckp execution successful.
07/17/2014 14:01:00 Executing setsfl.
07/17/2014 14:01:10 setsfl execution successful.
07/17/2014 14:01:10 Executing setnotused.
07/17/2014 14:01:22 setnotused execution successful.
07/17/2014 14:01:22 Executing blddbdict.
07/17/2014 14:02:14 blddbdict execution successful, plus dictionary created.
Hope this helps.

We're on LSF 9.0.1.11 and applications 9.0.1.8 and are currently in the process of upgrading LSF to 9.0.1.13 and TaxFactory from 9 to 10. The CTP did do a dbreorg, some programs did not compile and two more CTPs were required to fix the problem, both of which also required dbreorgs, including a 6 hour unload/load of the PRTIME table and compilation of over 600 programs.
By the way, in one of the previous comments, it is stated "plus dictionary created" - this indicates to me that a data dictionary change exists and a dbreorg is required.

I downloaded the required CTP for us at the time it was published (June 30, CTP 100734) and it states right in the readme file that a dbreorg WILL be required. So while we have not yet applied it, we are expecting to do a DBREORG. And the previous poster is correct - anytime a "plus dictionary" is created, that indicates that a reorg is needed.
Deanna, if you need to refresh your TEST db after you have applied the CTP to production, just make sure that you keep a copy of production before you apply the CTP. You can simply refresh TEST from the copy.

We brought down version 10.0.c1. Good thing we didn't install it - since Version 10.0.d is mandatory.

I show this on the InforXtreme website "BSI TaxFactory™ 10.0.d is an optional cyclic upgrade available from BSI."

My email from BSI states that 10.0.d is mandatory.
The new BSI portal kinda sucks. I don't see any reference to the 10.0.d bulletin information. Anyone else see it? I had to go look up the email just to find out if it was mandatory or not.

The old BSI portal was bad, the new one is worse. Looks like they replicated the old one and then added more obfuscation over the top of it. I found everything eventually but I couldn't tell you how I did, other than the old tried and true method of just clicking on everything.

Do they no longer post readable documnent online? The release documents I click on will only do a file download. Another win (NOT) for BSI.

I think everything that was there before is still the same, just harder to find. And the install procedure doesn't appear to have changed either. In fact, I still don't know what v10 offers vs v9 other than some additional tax calculations for states we don't use.

Just a heads up, watch out if your dbreorg includes PRTIME. The activate step of the CTP runs a dbreorg that attempts to unload PRTIME into the default location which I think is $LAWDIR/productline. It will fail if there isn't enough space in that file system and the dbreorg W option (use work file list) cannot be used once the dbreorg is already started. This was in one of the two CTPs (#100997 and #99452) that fixed issues with the original TF10 CTP (#100734) for us.

To cjandryle: Just curious - how and when did you find out the URL for the new TF10 BSI website and when did you receive a user id and initial password for it? We got a notice from BSI on June 30 saying that there would be a new support site and that user id's would be sent out that same afternoon - but we never received anything.

We got the same notice and never received anything else either. My manager is the support site administrator and he had to call them.

We got the initial June 30 email, but never got the one that they said would be delivered that afternoon. I emailed them on 7/10, and they responded with an email titled "Your new MyBSIConnect passord". That email had a link to the new portal, with the user name. The link takes you to a password reset page on the site.
