Environment Clone
Legacy Contributor
Dears,
we have a project to Upgrade our FP3 server to FP7, though i need to prepare a demo environment to test the upgrade process on new server, so i need to Clone my current Live serer to new Demo server, i tried a way to Backup DB from Live server and Restore it on Demo server, then copy BSE files from Live to Demo then re installed the compatible porting set on new demo server, i was able to login to the system, though when any user try to open a new session, an error accured saying cannot start session.
the Live server is windows 2003, the Demo server is windows 2008 R2 x64, that's why i had to re install new porting set after copying BSE
I need to know what is the best way to clone the Live environment to Demo server.
Thank you,
Rami

Rami,
I run on UNIX and Oracle, so things may be a bit different, but perhaps this will help.
There are a number of data fields in the database and in the run time files that are specific to your environment, that need to be modified so that the copy doesn't act on the original:
$BSE/lib/tabledef6.2 contains the database name
$BSE/lib/audit_hosts contains the server name to write the audit to
$BSE/lib/defaults/db_resource contains the path to the database software, but it doesn't sound like that changed in your case
Once you get connected to the new environment, you need to correct the database definition in the tools session and convert to run time. If you are on a single server, I don't know if the Systems table gets used, but you might change the server name there.
Hopefully this UNIX information is usable in a Windows environment. Let me know how it goes.
