EMSS V10 - We are having to clear cache or reset IT settings in order to display changes
unknown
We just went live with v10 of EMSS and for me it worked fine when we made a simple change because I have a setting in my IE that says to refresh webpage every time I visit page but our employees don't have that and therefore, they are returning a blank page. I've had to either reset IE settings and/or clear cache. Sometimes one thing works, sometimes I have to have them do both. Anybody have any recommendations on how to for it to refresh that page? I ran Fiddler for my incident which one step says to click tools and clear cache but as you can see...that fixes the problem. Any help is appreciated since this is causing us to be slammed with phone calls.

With version 10, there are so many components on a variety of servers we have adjusted our practices quite abit. We have been setting browsers to clear cache, temporary files and browser history for both EMSS and RQC. In addition, we reboot the servers on a regular basis as well.

May I ask for clarification on the environment here? We are on EMSS 10.0.6.0.13 but still on LSF 9.0.1. When you say v10 of EMSS - do you mean EMSS on Infor 10?

We are S3 9.0.1.8 and EMSS 10.0.6.12. It seemed that we were ok on Monday until we realized that we had a couple of items we needed to change. We removed an item under Pay and added another then customized the wording for the one we added to say W4 Form instead of Federal Withholding. Once that went out I didn't notice because, I THINK, I have a setting checked that says to refresh every time I visit a webpage. But for people who had it on Monday but not on Tuesday, they MUST go to internet options, advanced tab, click Reset but they must check the box that says to reset personal settings. If they don't check that box it doesn't work. If you only clear your cache, it doesn't work. This can't be our solution because of other issues this is causing when the reset everything. We have rebooting the server...last night...again.

We had a similar issue, appears to be holding in cache on the application server within websphere. Since we have multiple servers, we could see differences based on if the server cleared cache after the update or not. Best way to work around it was to stop/start the app servers in websphere and that seemed to clear the cache and we were good to go.

We did all that but nothing worked. Support said it wasn't possible and we would have to have out IT department handle it by clearing their cache at start up by group policy. Not a solution because I can't do that for the folks getting to it from home. We have to tell them to reset all their IE personal settings which is a hassle. We tried adding a parameter so that it would always think it's a new page but we were unsuccessful with this as well. What we have done is created a batch file that clears their cache because just doing the clear cache in IE does not work. Most of the calls have stopped since we now just tell them to reboot so it's not so much of an emergency any longer. Now I'm just curious why it happened to us but nobody else seemed to have experienced it the way we did. I still think we did or didn't do something when we went from 9 to 10 on EMSS ... just wish I knew what it was.

Not sure if this is the same as your issue, but had a similar problem. We disable user updates in a couple of areas in ESS, when we do certain year end processes. We use custom script files, and basically we go in and set a variable in them to disable/enable user updates, and display a message. 2 years ago (maybe when we moved to ESS 10 - not sure) we had a helluva time getting the screens to display the changes. Finally figured out that we had to use the "ver" parameter to force a cache refresh in the htm file.
Check this article, about halfway down.
