blddbdict stepping on current dictionary

Never seen this before in 15 years of running Lawson. We make a change to a table in dbdef and run blddbdict. When it is finished, instead of creating the new PL dictionary as '+PL', blddbdict writes directly to the current dictionary 'PL'. As a result, dbreorg cannot find a new dictionary to reorganize the database. What's worse is, the new dictionary does not match the data: Tables, fields, and indexes can be wrong.

Has anyone ever seen this? Would appreciate any insight you may have.

Running on Solaris, LSF 9.01.
