Wondering what others have in place for database backup processes. How frequently are you capturing backups? Does anyone know what Lawson recommends? We want to make sure the processes we have in place are appropriate, but are only able to find generic information out on Infor Xtreme. What are your thoughts? (We're a Windows/SQL shop.)

We take a full backup weekly, and we have incremental backups every day

I'm pretty sure Infor will not recommend a backup process/time frame as each company will have different policies and requirements for their data.
It will all come down to how much data/transactions your company is willing to lose if there is a problem.
We are also a Windows/SQL shop and we perform a daily full backup with hourly transaction log backups. So worst case scenario we would only lose 1 hour of data/transactions which should easily be able to re-entered by the business users.

Maynard --- do you do your transaction log backups every hour or more frequently?

I do not know the details of transaction log backups. Those are done by the Windows admins. Sorry that I do not have more info.

If you are referring to transaction logs on the database, those are done by the DBAs; but I believe that the frequency is 15 mintues.

Full backup daily, 1.5 hour transaction log and incremental backups

We too are a Windows & SQL shop and take nightly full backups, plus 4 hour incrementals.

HP-UX and Oracle, nightly incremental, weekly and monthly full with longer retentions, archive logs are replicated real time to another location.

Thanks everyone for your input. We are currently doing a full backup daily, 1 hour transaction log and incremental backups as well. Just wanted to make sure we were in the ballpark with what others are doing.
