TM v 10.2 and the 'Set as of Date'

We are new implementation for Talent Management v 10.2. We have been on an old version of PeopleSoft.
We are struggling how to 'look up' employees that were terminated and look at actions on employee resource that are future dated.

I do best with scenarios.
1. There is a reference call to see is Joe Smith is employeed.
HR staff go to TM, Resources- search for the person... No results.
Employee actually termed a month ago. The only way I can get this person to show up is to play with the 'Set as of date' to a date when that person was an active employee.

2. Sally is applying for another job. HR staff go to look at the employee resource record to read up on any information. HR can't see there is already a transfer to another job as it is a future dated action. Again, without having an idea of a date to look at for anything future, and pick one, then set the 'as of date'... simply don't see full picutre on what is going on with the employee.
How do any of you handle the above situations? I can't imagine we are that unique.

Could you use a consistent date for both - for the termed person, 0101/1950 (maybe the earliest date that you have data, the company start date, etc. Same thing for future dated - why not pick 12/31/2015 (or however far in the future you may have actions? (Caveat - we are not using TM at this time, so I'm not sure if this would be easy or not)

1. We can see all our terminated employees on the Resource Search so you're missing something in your setup. The columns that show info from the Primary Work Assignment are blank (because the WA is inactive) so you can tell at a glance that the employee is terminated.

2. Only visibility is to look at the Audit Log on the work assignment where the future dated transaction shows at the top above the current record. The assumption here is you did the Transfer/Promotion in the existing work assignment rather than end the existing WA and create a new one.

Thanks gcutland.. I think I did get a little confused.. it wasnt' the termed people we can't see.. it's the 'new hires' that have a future start date. We don't see them unless we can hit that 'set as of date' to be after their start date.. does that make sense?

We did a couple things. We hire the employee now using a status called onboard. This allows us to get them in the system and future date the actual work assignment. We also added a flag to our At A Glance and Work Assignment tabs to show that the employee has a future transactions. This helps you know if you should look at the audit log or not. You still need to look to get the details but you do not need to look at everyone.

Everything is driven from the effective date used on a transaction and the "as of date" allows you to see what an employee looked like on a day in the past - or will look like on a day in the future.

One option is to change the business process so that future new hires are entered with an effective date of today. Their Start Date and other dates would still be the future date. We are doing this with future dated contracts and allowances to allow the visibility today and prevent accidental double entry. The Begin Date on the contract or allowance is always the correct future date.

You just have to be aware of this for reporting purposes if someone tries to use effective date versus start date as a selection criteria.

Try personalizing your resource and work assignment views to include "has future changes". This will allow you to see at a glance that there is already an action processed and signal you to look at the audit log for the effective date and details. Check with your implementation consultant on the personalization steps.
