WAS 8.5.5 Installation Manager Launch - AIX
unknown
Trying to launch WAS 8.5.5 Installation Manager. AIX 7.1
I installed IM silently and it's at /opt/IBM/InstallationManager
When I try to run ./IBMIM using XWindows (as 'root' or as 'lawson') for GUI mode, I get the error below. I've verified that libswt-pi-gtk-4239.a exists in the folder; I ran the ldd command (all libraries are present.) I set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point to the folders where the libraries are at. Still did not work. I know about the links to the IBM reference articles. Already read them, did not seem to work
Any ideas how to resolve? WAS 8.5.5 is new to me and so it's probably something small that needs to be done. (NOTE: I *can* run a LSFCT.jar OK in XWindows.) I don't want to run IM in command line mode!
Thank you for your time and help.

I ran into a similar issue with Red Hat a while back. It had to do with a bug in the current version of Cairo.
I edited the install.ini file in the WAS/inst directory and added this line to the end:
-Dorg.eclipse.swt.internal.gtk.cairoGraphics=false
unknown
Thanks Eric, I got past the error messages by resetting LIBPATH to point to 64 bit libraries..
I uninstalled Installation Manager, added the line you suggest, and reinstalled
Now when running the IBMIM command, the error messages are:
winMultiWindowXMsgProcErrorHandler - ERROR: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
winMultiWindowXMsgProcErrorHandler - ERROR: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
winMultiWindowXMsgProcErrorHandler - ERROR: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
The GUI window does come up but all of the fonts in the GUI screen are garbled and basically unreadable (squares).
I've verified all of the X11 fonts are available and exist. But I still cannot get the fonts to appear correct and readable.

Oh, and I tried using console mode to install Websphere products using IM version 1.6.2 and 1.8.2.
Just to future information, IM won't allow you to install AppServer or Plugins using console mode. You will receive an error telling you so.

I had the issue using Installation Manager but I think it ended up self-resolving. I wracked my brain for awhile. This article helped:
www-01.ibm.com/.../docview.wss
And this one:
www-01.ibm.com/.../docview.wss
I remember having to make some additional changes to fonts. It was extremely picky. Our System Engineer's magic trick was to remove the RPMs that the GTK installed, fix RPM and SSH because it caused issues, and then reinstalled the GTKs without using IBM's script.

Thanks Matt,
I've already looked at those two articles. I've already done:
lslpp -l | grep X11.fnt
And have confirmed these exist, and others:
X11.fnt.coreX
X11.fnt.defaultFonts
X11.fnt.iso1
X11.fnt.iso_T1
What do you mean by "fix RPM and SSH because it caused issues"? How did you "fix"? And then how did you reinstall the GTK's without using IBM's script?
unknown
Did you install the full GTK rpm group of files at the exact supported release? Also do you have the zip/unzip that the IBM info center requires us to use? Did you install Firefox at the required level?
Those are no longer items that you can skip as in the past. They are items that are now required for the Installation Manager to work.
You have to use the exact release that IBM lists. Do not use updates either. updates do not work. Yes it is extremely picky. There is an IBM script that will download all of the GTK for you at the right release levels and install them in one fail swoop. Also make sure to use the force option during the installation.

We finally got this to work. The key to this was to install the Version 2 GTK's using SMITTY, not the install package method that IBM has.
