CTP
Legacy Contributor
I have two questions for the community.
1. How do I subscribe on Infor10 website to get CTP notifications?
2. How poractive are the users in applying CTP's?
Thanks
Ram

Given the quantity of CTP's released and amount of testing needed to ensure a patch doesn't introduce new issues, I think most people wait for a MSP. Pretty much the same for environment patches, too.
We only apply CTP's on a complaint by business users to resolve a reported issue. Sometimes I suggest to the business there is a patch available for a program, though the problems are usually not critical.

We are at present on MSP 9.0.1.8, looking to upgrade to MSP9.0.1.10 (ESP 9.0.1.10) in the foreseeable future.
We too only update CTPs on a Customer request for specific issue resolutions. I would totally agree with Jack, with the number of CTP 'offerings', only implement those which resolve specific User issues - as and when!

Not reaslly proactive at all!

Thanks Jack & Peter for your comments.

We only apply CTPs as needed for our organization when we find issues. We have been on lawson since 1999 and found out the hardway applying CTPS that you really do not need can and has caused us to break something else. The CTPs are so numerous anymore we test everything before putting in production. Almost like a mini MSP testing unless if only effects one program. Rigth now we are on lawsonapps 9.0.1.9 and lawson ENV 9.0.1.12 and have applied several CTPS for the APPS more for finance then procurement.

I export the critical patches for the past month and send it to a review team on a monthly basis. However, I will only apply at CTP patch if they can duplicate the issue in our development environment first and can justify the immediate need. We have been live since 2010 and I have only done this twice. Otherwise, we only apply a CTP patch to address a specific issue.
We are currenly on MSP 9.0.1.8 and we are testing 9.0.1.10 in development.

We have a once a year cycle to apply MSP/ESP. Outside of that process, we only apply critical patches to address issues that have been seen in PROD. This has reduced the time for testing from users. When we do need to apply patches we will run it in preview mode, see what application versions are changing. That gives us a very good idea which forms are changing and how to structure testing.

How does this apply to Service Packs. I am working on PORTAL XSS vulnerability issues and INFOR is recommending I update from "v9.0.1.9, SP9" to "v9.0.1.9, SP12". Then enable xssvalidation.isenabled=true in file xssvalidator.properties. Note that this xssvalidatior.properties is available in my current Service Pack so I am on the fence with updating the Service Pack for no known reason other than they like to work in the latest version.
What is the Risk of updating these Service Packs? Would this require an extensive amount of end user testing?

Make backups of the config files before applying service packs. They might add new parms, the might change parms you had to manually set. You never know.
In my experience, the environment fixes have been much more reliable than the application layer patches. In practice, this doesn't mean much, just fewer iterations of the test script get performed.
I will install the ESP then apply any CTP's (often 10 or more) in numerical order before I even start testing.
Once I have a stable and running production system, I will only install environment CTP's to fix reported problems.

I am repeating Ramesh's question above.
How do you export the critical patch information on a monthly basis?
- Can you please let me know where you get this information?
I would like to see a list of all the CTP's available for me each month.
Thanks

To export a list of CTP's available for the month, I go to Infor Extreme Support site, and under Downloads, Patches, I select S3 and then leave all the other fields as ALL, click search, once the data is displayed, there are filter fields where you can select Last 30 days. then click the Export button located on the left.
